Saioh walked calmly towards the dueling field wearing his usual dreamy expression, as though he were simply out for a stroll with a Duel Disk strapped to his wrist. He did, however, pick out the duelist he was looking for and let his eyes focus on him.

"Johan Anderson, I presume," he said.

Saioh took the loss of points with good grace. It was only a small scuff, after all, and he wasn't losing very much.

"Summoning your monster allows me to normal summon another Arcana monster, and I choose Arcana Force VI - The Lovers."

The new monster took its place on the field. It appeared to be eyeing the Eagle with an expression that suggested its time would come.

Johan nodded some; that wasn't much of a surprise after all. He wondered what kind of a special effect this one would have. But he'd see shortly, he was sure.

"I set two face-down cards, and end my turn," he said, setting the cards out one by one. Whatever came next, he was ready for.

The new monster's card was set to spinning.

"Choose the effect," Saioh said. "If it stops upright, I can use this card as two tributes for a tribute summon. If it stops in reversed position, I won't be able to tribute summon at all. Choose well."

Johan watched it intently for nearly a minute. With the way cards could fall, anything could actually be a good choice. You never knew until the cards were drawn. So...

"Stop now!" he declared suddenly, and waited to see.

The card spun to a stop - in reverse position. Saioh took the event in stride.

"My turn," he said. "I play Arcana Force IV - The Emperor."

Johan nodded; he knew what was going to come next. Whatever the Emperor's effect, he was curious to see what it would be. The Lovers had a high enough attack strength to defeat Cobalt Eagle, and that would leave his field clear for the Emperor to attack directly.

He could survive that, easily enough, and one of his traps was just made for that. But he wasn't going to fret over what Saioh might do. He'd just let him do it.

He watched as the card spun, waiting, waiting...and..."Stop now!"

The card slid to a halt in reverse position.

"Good. Just what I wanted to see," said Saioh. "Trap card, open - Reversed Destiny! The positions of my Arcana cards are reversed, which means they are now all upright. The Emperor's upright effect states that all Arcana monsters on my field gain 500 attack points. Emperor, attack his Eagle."

Johan winced just a bit, but he had made plans for this already. As Cobalt Eagle vanished from the attack, he retaliated. "I think a trap of my own is in order here! Trap card, open! Gem Set! When a Gem Beast is destroyed in battle, I can select a Gem Beast from my deck and put it in my Spell and Trap Zone...and as an extra bonus, any damage I would have received from that attack is reduced to zero!"

He grinned as two gems formed in the spell and trap zone: one of them the glistening cobalt, the other a large chunk of amber, as he'd chosen Amber Mammoth for Gem Set's effect.

Saioh's Arcana Force monsters were interesting...but the power of his family, that never left his side, could match it.

"Well played," said Saioh, "but I still have one monster left, and The Emperor's effect still holds, which means The Lovers has 2100 ATK."

He paused a moment to shoot a glare at Fubuki, who was still commentating on the action. Saioh preferred to have a dignified duel; there didn't need to be any wisecracks about how love hurt.

Johan couldn't help but snicker a little at that himself. Especially since he was going to make sure it didn't hurt quite that much.

"Well, love can be a pain." That was what this was about, in a sense, anyway. "But I'd rather it didn't hurt so much myself, so I activate my other trap! G-Force!"

He turned one of the cards in his hand around and Emerald Turtle appeared. "When G-Force is activated, your monster will fight one of mine as if mine were on the field." Emerald wasn't his strongest, only having six hundred attack points, but he had a slow plan burning in the back of his mind and this was the start of it.

"It appears I am in the lead," said Saioh. "I will set one card and end my turn."

"It does look that way," Johan nodded with a fierce and joyful grin. He drew and his grin widened. But who knew how long that would last, hm? "I summon Gem Beast Amethyst Cat!" He wasn't quite ready to have her use her effect, though. A little something, first. "And I equip her with Gem Release! That increases her attack strength by eight hundred points...and by halving that, she can attack you directly!" Which would ultimately cause a thousand points of damage. Not bad at all.

Hologram or not, Saioh reflexively raised an arm to protect himself from the cat's claws.

"Crude, but effective," he commented wryly.

Amethyst Cat landed back on Johan's side of the field and he smiled warmly at her. That wasn't a move he did very often, equipping her like that, but he felt it worked this time, given the meaning behind these duels.

"Usually I don't bother equipping her, but today's a bit special," he replied calmly. He eyed his hand for a moment; he didn't have much, just one card other than Emerald Turtle. He considered setting Induced Summon, then changed his mind. It was always good to have a spare card in one's hand...for emergencies, if nothing else. "I end my turn."

Saioh drew his next card and nodded; things were shaping up just as he would have liked. Well, not quite - he hadn't drawn his most powerful monsters, but why use 4000 attack points when a zero-attack monster would do plenty of damage on its own? But he was still missing a piece of the puzzle. He would buy some time.

"I'll set this monster in defense mode," he decided, placing a monster face-down. "The two monsters I have should be enough. I'll have The Lovers attack your Amethyst Cat."
