Not two minutes later, Lyle floated over the edge of the roof and touched down softly with a crunch of frost. New Years Eve. It only felt different then any other day through the people around him. Was that bad, or the entire point? His fingers, which should have been cold, instead curled in his coat pockets. He didn’t need excessive winter wear despite the weather; his Legion ring’s bio-shield glowed warmly in the dark, but he still hid his nervousness behind his green scarf.

“Sprock, what’s all this?” He muttered, eyes widening. He’d been expecting star watching under a blanket or something, not an entire meal. Naoki had obviously put effort into it.

Naoki jumped slightly at the sudden arrival, but when he turned to face Lyle, no trace of his surprise showed, only a soft smile.

"Surprise," he laughed, admittedly pleased at the expression on the Legionnaire's face. The best part of a surprise was actually seeing the surprise on someone's face when they found it, and this time was no exception. "Happy almost new year, Lyle."

“Happy almost new year to you too,” The Legionnaire flashed a charming grin at the Demi-Fiend, still trying to grasp the entirety of Naoki’s plans. “This is quite the surprise.” If any more proof was needed, he fulfilled the need by scratching the back of his head and flushing, expression turning more bashful by the second. He’d been promised something to make up for the month they were separated by the older boy’s sudden sleep, and this had to be it. “Man, you really went all out…”

He walked forward, more a shuffle, unsure where he was supposed to go to make Naoki’s plans run smoothly. The delicious smell wafted through the biting air, and he couldn’t resist leaning over to try and examine the dinner table. “So, chef, what are we dining on tonight?” Lyle threw a teasing grin at the other teen, rocking back and forth on the heels of his sneakers.

"I told you I'd make it up to you, and it's tradition to spend the start of the new year with the people you love," he said, faintly mimicking the other's blush. Since, of course, he only had one loved one at the compound, it was a small affair. Not that he minded that at all. "I wanted it to be special."

Laughing again at the 'chef' title, he motioned Lyle over, glancing momentarily at the table. "I made soba and there should be some other things in the jubako boxes. Black beans, sweet omelets, kelp rolls, steamed shrimp." Probably more than they could eat on their own, but better too much than not enough. "Hopefully something you like is in there." After all, he knew pretty much nothing about what food was like in Lyle's time, or even much of what he liked. With any luck, things would work out regardless of his lack of research.
