"What a load of rubbish," Saioh muttered, as he tromped through the snow. Under his arm, he carried the book he'd found in the library. It had presented itself to be a guide to utilizing psychic energy, but he had discovered upon reading it that it was just a jumble of superstitious nonsense. It had crossed his mind to simply keep the book so that no one else could be subjected to such misinformation, but in the end he'd decided it would just annoy him to have it around the house, so he had made up his mind to take it back to where he'd found it.

He was in a rather unpleasant mood, up until he passed a hologram that waved at him. He stopped to look at it, and also the man who seemed to be controlling it.

"Having fun?" he inquired.

"For many people, it seems that way, yes," Saioh agreed, "though I think that may be more that they choose the wrong things to fill it up with. But that is not what I meant. It is more that I have an unusual relationship with time; tomorrow is as yesterday to me, and the time before I was born is no different to me than the present. I am able to step back and look at the larger pattern, instead of being caught in a single moment."

Siegfried listened to this explanation with interest. It was an odd explanation, and Siegfried didn't think that came from the two having different native languages. But he thought that perhaps he could guess the correct meaning. "In other words, you are a time traveler, ja?"

That actually made Saioh laugh a little.

"Only in my mind," he said. "I am more, one might say, a clairvoyant."

Now Siegfried's look turned suddenly wary as he eyed the young man. It wasn't that he minded that the man was a clairvoyant, although he did rather like keeping his thoughts private. He merely recalled Pegasus's own tale of when he held such powers. Was this, then, the mysterious thief who stole the Eye? "I see..."

Saioh gave him a stern look. "No, I am not. Don't even think of such a thing."

Siegfried blinked, not having expected to hear a reply to his thoughts. It seemed that this was one around whom a person might as well just speak his mind, although that went against every instinct Siegfried had. "My apologies. It is just that the only such incidence of that sort of ability that I know of from our world is that particular one."

Saioh nodded, silently accepting the apology. "As it happens, I am from approximately ten years into your future. I was only a small child at the time of that event, so I could not possibly have been there. I was born with these powers."

Siegfried crunched the numbers in his head and agreed. This one could not have been the one. That was good to know. Siegfried toyed with the notion of seeking out this fellow and maybe working to cultivate the talent. It would be a useful sort of talent to have available.

However, Siegfried recognized that there might be a problem with that notion. If the young man didn't remember Siegfried doing such a thing, then likely Siegfried didn't, which meant that he couldn't. Oh, the joys of time paradoxes.

"How intriguing. I was not aware that natural psychics actually existed."

"We are a rare breed," said Saioh, somewhat wryly. "As far as I know, my sister and I are the only ones of our kind."

"Rare indeed," Siegfried agreed. He turned his attention briefly to the PDA, and a few keystrokes later, there appeared two Freyas, and then four, and then eight. "However, it stands to reason that if there are two, then there are more."

"If they are there, I've never found them," said Saioh, "and I have been searching for a long time. The only others I know who share my gifts are people here."

Siegfried gave a shake of his head. "That makes no sense," he muttered. "Mind-reading, future-seeing - they have been spoken of for a very long time. So it stands to reason that there have been others."

"That does not follow," said Saioh. "Many stories have been written and movies been made where people have built ships that move faster than light, but that does not mean that anyone in our world has created such a thing."

Siegfried grinned, enjoying the chance for a bit of friendly debate. "Tales of oracles, sibyls, prophets - they have been around for far longer than modern science fiction, dear sir. From what I've learned here, magic does exist in our world. So if tales of magic are true, why must the tales of those who see the future be false?"

"Even allowing that such things existed in the past," said Saioh, "it still doesn't follow that they continue to exist. We have considerable evidence that dinosaurs existed at some point, but there certainly aren't any now."
