Relena was sitting on the couch, even though it was late at night. She had just finished putting her gun back together and she still wasn't sure what she was going to do. She knew that she should be trying to sleep, but she couldn't.

She didn't even notice the window opening up.

The window lifted soundlessly. That was good, although Jesse carried a few supplies with her including a bit of oil for things that might stick or squeak. Moving as quietly as she could, Jesse slipped into the apartment.

Relena lay back against the couch, closing her eyes for a moment before she heard the sounds of someone else walking around. That wasn't right. Her roommate was a cat she hadn't meet before.

She clicked the safety off of her gun and stood up, looking around for the source of the sound.

Content just to look around, Jesse explored the room. It didn't take long to figure out that the occupant was a woman. She doubted that there'd be anything for Morty here. 'Guess I'll have to try someplace else,' she sighed to herself as she started back for the window.

Lina had been cleaning. Lacking anything better to do, she'd taken down her traveling cloak and was going through its pockets, checking to see what sort of things she might be carrying with her.

"Geez, how long has this been in there?" she wondered, tossing aside a chunk of jewel-encrusted statuary. It bounced on the mattress of her bed a few times. "I should have cleaned this thing out months ago."

Already piled up around her were a scattering of gold and gems, some scrolls, crystals of various sizes and colors, a few small weapons, and assorted other odds and ends she'd collected on her various treasure-hunting expeditions, all neatly sorted.

Jesse worked the window open and peered into the room. She didn't go in right away, however, for the room was occupied. Occupied by someone with a small pile of treasure. Jesse stared in wide-eyed wonder. Just a little of that would be enough to keep herself, James, and Meowth well-fed for months! A bit of treasure also might make a good birthday present for Morty. But how to get to the treasure?

Lina reached deep into a pocket and pulled out a paper-wrapped packet. She carefully opened it... and made a face. Whatever had been in the package had apparently once been edible, but that time was several months in the past.

"How did I forget that?" she wondered aloud. Still grimacing, she got up to go find a trash can to put it in. Or perhaps bury it.

Jesse saw her chance and took it! When the little girl seemed like she might be leaving, Jesse began easing the window open carefully. She figured she'd just go in, swipe something, and hurry out.

Moonlight from the world outside illuminated a bed, not a few paces before Jesse. On it lay a tall figure resting on its back, a black slouch hat five hundred years out of style turned down where his head would be. Save for a night breeze that ruffled the collar of his grim garb, there was no movement coming from the figure. Certainly nothing that betrayed knowledge of Jesse's presence.

Jesse eyed the figure warily, deciding that he was asleep. At least this one was a guy's room. If she was to find a birthday present for a guy, this was the place to look.

Rather pleased with herself, Jesse began prowling the room.

And about the moment Jesse's feet carried her to the center of the room was when Vri-Eksi exploded in a flood of its own overhead lights.

Were she to glance at the bed, she would see what the darkness had obscured. There was indeed a hat, but there was no man beneath. Only assorted pillows and cushions forming the likeness of one.

Rising from a chair shadowed by the corner closet was a tall blue-eyed Englishman. He wore the same black clothes as the 'slumbering figure' had, sans the hat. An old flintlock pistol was clutched in his right hand, but he did not level it at Jesse. Much worse anyway was the dark scowl that had hardened the lines on his weathered face. And a cold blue gaze that could freeze hellfire.

"Come to finish what ye started?"

OOC: This is before Selphie's PSA on Jing, I assume? ^^

Jesse swore as the sudden flood of lights briefly blinded her. Now that just wasn't fair! And it became even less fair as she realized that for the second time tonight she was facing someone with a gun.

"Oh come on! I just started!" Jesse snarled at the man. "This is the first time I've done this stuff since I got here!"

Elena was lying on the couch in the living room, listening to some music, dressed for bed with blue flannel pajamas pattered with chocobos and fluffy pink slippers, her long blond hair out of its pigtails and sprawled over the pillows. Things have seemed to calmed down in the city, even though there was that thief. She was still on alert in case they came back again, a curtain rod nearby.
