It was starting to seem like everytime Zuko had something on his mind, he'd gone to the pond to think about it all. As a firebender, he shouldn't have felt so relaxed beside an element that vastly contrasted his own, but the area was one of the quietest within the compound. Unless he drew attention to himself, like the time he'd used the water as a punching bag for his bending during a fit of rage, people didn't seem to bother him much. And right now, the prince didn't feel like being bothered, with a few exceptions.

One of those was the blue-haired girl who he caught sight of as he came through the trees near the water's edge.

He remembered the last time he actually saw Mercury, which had been when he'd lay dying, bleeding to death from a fatal injury. It was something he didn't want to remember, but couldn't get out of his mind and refused to admit how it had been keeping him up at night after he'd reawakened from that sick, twisted vision of death and destruction. It was one of the things he'd come out here to contemplate ( ... )

A voice she hadn't recognized before hit her ears. The senshi turned to face the young man who addressed her, smiling and suppressing a chuckle at his expression. She'd seen it before, here. "I am guessing you have mistaken me for my twin," Mercury said, "I apologize." Seeing as her skirt was too short to curtsy in, she gave a bow instead. She was indeed different, looking more... regal than the other Mercury. But at the same time, so alike. Same facial structure, same height and build. A big difference though, was the eyes... This Mercury's were blue, and reflected her emotions like waves on the shore. Right now, they were... calm. A bit worried, yes, but calm.

Zuko's good eye went wide for a moment in realization before she even apologized, seeing that this was the Princess Mercury and not the one that he considered one of his closest friends. The bow made him drastically change his posture. Where he had been standing in a relaxed manner with one knee bent to accent his slouch, he now stood straight with this feet together and his knees parallel, holding his chin up in the air ever so slightly. How to carry oneself around royalty was something someone who was also royalty knew how to do all too well.

"No, I apologize." He gave her a bow that was low enough to show his respect for her title, yet not as low as he would have for a ruling monarch. "I should have been more observant, though it is a pleasure to finally meet you, your highness. I'm Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation."

Mercury's eyes widened a bit at how stiff he became. At his introduction, Mercury raised her hands in placation. "Please, Zuko," she insisted, leaving the title off on purpose, "Do not be so formal. Here, I am a prisoner of this city, as you and everyone else are." She smiled again, hands lowering. "I prefer it that way, truthfully," she added, a light laugh in her voice, "It's... nice. I prefer to be seen as a person... not just a princess, or just a soldier."

There was still much for Azula to think about ( ... )

So many who knew her twin...

This made the Princess happy, in a way. She wasn't alone, forced to fight alone. Friends, maybe not, but allies, certainly. That much she knew. Smiling to the brunette, Mercury bowed, since a curtsy was impossible in her current attire. "Likewise," replied the princess, "Azula, correct? A pleasure to meet you." Okay, so she had a little help from her twin's memories for that one, but she knew that her counterpart may use her own memories for assistance, sooner or later, so perhaps that was fair.

"The pleasure is all mine," Azula said. It figured that this Mercury would be as fetching as her own, but of course Azula was far beyond that mode of thinking. It was SO early Econtra. "What brings you ought here on such an odd day? I would normally be suspicious, given my friend's distaste of senshi, but you find favor with her, so you can't be like the others. I've been very curious to talk to you, believe it or not."

Azula bright her right hand up, and very small waterfall trickled from the water she held above her. "I want to know, if it isn't too impertinent, what your mission is here in Econtra."

"I am patrolling," explained Mercury, "Just keeping watch. Anything is plausible and possible, at this point in time." It was truth, though yes, she was clearing her head as well. However, she would not lay her problems on the table for this new acquaintance. At least not yet.

At the next question, she blinked. "In the wider scheme of things," she replied carefully, "I wish to find a way to eliminate the Ginzuishou back in my time. Locally, however... I wish to protect those here as much as I am able to. Especially now..." She looked at her cuff-less arm, worry in her face.

The Doctor had been perched on the empty fountain for quite some time, and it was starting to get a little chilly - or, in his head, really, rather comfortable. Chin propped up by one hand, his dark eyes bored into the wall of the building across from him, and as twilight began to fall over the compound, the Doctor found that it got subsequently chillier. His jacket remained abandoned next to him, and he tapped his sonic screwdriver against his knee, rummaging around in his coat for the ineffectual little PDA, pointing the device at the communicator for what must have been the thirteenth time in the last five minutes, listening to the frequencies, carefully calibrating each setting. Nothing. Frustrated, he set the communicator down and tucked the sonic screwdriver into the internal pocket of his suit jacket.

The senshi watched with more than mild curiosity; what on Mercury was he doing? Well, standing there and wondering would do no good, now would it? She approached, her boots clacking on the ground. "Excuse me, sir," she said as she came close, hands folded in front of her, "May I ask what it was you were attempting just now?" She gave a small smile, attempting to appear friendly since she was in her senshi uniform.

Looking up where he'd been tucking the device away, the Doctor smiled a touch warily. "Depends. You don't sound like the egomaniac, so I'll assume you're ah..." a moment's pause for thought. "An alternate version, which means you might not be not self-obsessed and snarky, however brilliant and stunningly calculating and all that whatsit you may be. Working with her - the other you, at any point, under any circumstance, has been absurdly difficult. I just gave up after awhile. Anyway, you don't seem like her, see, she'd probably just tell me I was doing it wrong and not even bother to ask. So! Right! As to what I was doing ( ... )

As the man spoke, Mercury gracefully sat down next to him, crossing her ankles and folding her hands in her lap, listening. He certainly was interesting, and the way he spoke... he knew what he was talking about, certainly. "If it's even Earth," she murmured as he finished his explanation, looking at the sky as well. The sky was such an abysmally foul shade of gray... Did it always turn such when it snowed? Why would such a grotesque sky hold such beautiful weather?

At his offer of a coat, she blinked in surprise, then laughed, covering her mouth with a hand. "Please," she said, waving a hand in mild dismissal, "I'm quite all right... I'm used to far colder temperatures than this. You could say that I am much more at home in the snow than in the sun." It was cold year round on Mercury; odd, considering it's proximity to the sun. "And since you know my counterpart," she continued, "You already know this, but... I am Princess Mercury. But please, just Mercury is fine. Pleased to meet you." She bowed her head in greeting.

Buffy kept an eye on her surroundings, her scythe cradled casually in one arm, ready to use if need be. The blade may not have been as sharp as she'd like, but hey. With Slayer strength, it didn't have to be!

The night was proving to be uneventful, which seemed suspicious for this place. Frowning, the blonde slipped the scythe out of its cradle and twirled it around a little, just as she felt something spike on her spidey sense. It wasn't too uncommon, since a lot of the people here seemed to register on her radar, but Buffy gripped the staff of the scythe a little firmer, preparing to strike. Scanning the compound around her, she noticed a blue haired woman in the distance. Well, didn't look too dangerous, but then, neither did Buffy.

She shifted into a more casual stance and approached the woman. Time to tell if she was friend or foe.

"Heya. Enjoying a nice walk?"

Mercury blinked and turned to the voice. A woman with a scythe... Why did this seem odd, even for here? Even for her? Not to mention reminded her of someone... Couldn't put her finger on it, though. She considered for a moment to summon Mariner Blade, but thought against it, for now. Instead, she smiled briefly, nodding in greeting. "Merely taking a patrol, miss" she replied, "Considering the circumstances, it's been too quiet as of late."

"You can say that again." She relaxed when the woman didn't attack, and starting spinning the scythe again. It felt natural in her hands, as it always had after Kendra had died, and she actually tossed it once.

"Considering what's been going on around here? Yeah, not liking the quiet. I'm Buffy, by the way. You patrol here often?"

"I am Princess Mercury, but just Mercury is fine," she greeted in return, bowing a bit, "I am pleased to meet you, Buffy." At her question, she frowned. "Sadly, no," she admitted, "I had some things to work through when I arrived... However, now, I plan to make it a habit." Mercury couldn't help but shift her eyes as the girl tossed the scythe; bit dangerous, that.
