Fortune-Telling [subthread] honoo_no_hime August 9 2008, 00:08:29 UTC
Instead of the traditional summer kimono, Mars sat at the booth wrapped in the shawl of a fortune-teller, pulled over her head as well. Small papers had been tied to a nearby tree, and identical ones (as well as brushes and ink) sat before the girl herself. Each of them looked blank, but on the other side was writing. Mars did not show what was inscribed on any of them yet. Candles, too, stood on the table, their flames flickering in the occasional breeze but not going out.

Beyond that, there was little to see at this particular table. The priestess greeted each passer-by the same way.

"Take a place at this booth to have your fortune shown to you."

The super hero stood considering this choice.. Love? Bah. Relationships? Jobs? He was pretty sure he was confident regarding those matters. "Surprise me." he said. Crossing his arms across his chest, his robotic arm in plain view.

[ooc: Consult this Otherwise you could touch up on Saturn Girl who Garth has a very strong relationship with, or Ayla, his sister who he cares deeply for who had just recently been rescued.]

Mars folded her hands before her. As she did, the candle flames in front of her joined into one. Inside the flames, an image of a girl formed. Blond, wearing a body suit, something in the style of typical western superheroes the girl noticed.

Garth was noticeably impressed with the light show, but more so when he saw Imra.. Saturn Girl's vague appearance in the flames. Well, what do you know? Either that or she's a mind reader. Could be either, Garth reasoned, as he watched on.

"You will share a long history with her. It's hard to see clearly, because it spans strange situations that might influence both of your fates. Different times." She had a sense of altered times, altered states and even ages somehow. Time travel? It wasn't unheard of in Mars' own world, not among Mars and the other sailor senshi.

"Huh.. Interesting." Garth said as he watched the flames. "Got anything to do with us legionnaires being here? Brainy and me?" Or was she talking about him being involved with her on a Legion basis? Whatever the case, it was vague, just too vague. Pft, Atleast when Dreamgirl had a prediction, it was detailed.

"My powers aren't always precise," Mars explained. "Everything changes, even fate."

Not in every case, of course, but many people who claimed to have very specific visions were fakes - or omitting something. The element of change; how much was fate, how much was human decision or indecision.

"Everything that happens when time is crossed, has the potential to change destiny," she told the boy. "But it seems it might be romantic, as well as comrades."

If he hadn't gotten the yukata, Naoki would have completely forgotten about Tanabata. The black and blue garment fit better than he thought it would, and he was lucky to remember how to put a yukata on.
It was almost like being home again. Or, home before it was destroyed. The whole arrangement was wonderful.

Hearing the priestess' statement, he wandered over, unable to keep a contented smile off his face.
"Mind if I take you up on that offer?"

Mars looked up at the approaching boy, and nodded.

"Take a place," she invited, gesturing with her hand to the chair across from her. "What do you want to know about?"

It was much like doing this sort of thing for a school festival. The topics broached here were unlikely to be so serious as the fortunes she sometimes saw for herself. The ones coming to her here would most likely want advice for love, jobs, relationships, success.

He sat in the offered chair, taking in the sight of the booth and the flames. There were any number of things he could ask for, but wasn't compelled to ask about any specifically.

"Whatever you can tell me." Hopefully he wasn't being a pain by being vague.

He had... a dark aura that she could feel even as he sat in front of her.

"The fire bothers you," she said almost off-handedly. But nonetheless, Mars closed her eyes as she placed her hands together. The flames from the candles joined into one in the air. It showed a candelabra. When she opened her eyes again to see it, she found it strange.

Kragok found the kimono to be at once comfortable and restrictive. It was not his usual Legion robe, and although he had quickly learned how to put it on, he still found it a nuisance to move in. Fighting in it seemed even less of a possibility. That was hardly a positive point of it in the Echidna's opinion, and he decided that as soon as this festival was over, he would remove the dreadful thing and never again wear it.

The table caught his attention first, alerting him to the woman who sat at it, shawl over her head and people slowly approaching her. Was it the same soothsayer who had granted Kragok's own fortune to him? The one who had awakened him once more to the idea that his destiny was his own? He stepped over to the table, glancing up at the shawled woman.

"Hello," he greeted cordially.

She was a girl used to fighting in a short skirt and high heels. Its advantage, of course, was that it was lightweight - and therefore mobility. Yukata were just as light, but it was true they restricted the legs more. She, too, in her current clothing would find fighting difficult until she transformed.

"Good evening." Mars returned the greeting politely as well. "Do you want to know your fortune?"

"Not necessary this time, thank you," Kragok replied. It was certainly her, he was sure of it. He felt he owed her something, but in a place like this, there wasn't much he could give that something like the Indigeo could not. "You opened my eyes to the truth. I have no fate, no fortune. I make my own destiny from hereon in." Something about that statement made him even more pleased about it every time he spoke.

"I would, however, like to know more about the one who played the part of the seer to me," he said, crossing his arms. "And, I assume, the one who sent me this ridiculously confining outfit."

She smiled. "It's traditional in my world for summer festivals," Mars said, referring to the outfit.

But he was right about what else he'd said. So this was Kragok, then, the one who'd wanted to know whether his fate was unavoidable. She had seen Fate rewritten, and she had seen Fate 'win'. Neither was a definite.

It was more difficult to think that this person wanted to know more about her. "I was a priestess in my world," she said, "That's where this power comes from." The fortune-telling power and spiritual sense, at least. He already knew her other powers came from her planet.

"Interesting," he commented. "The Dark Legion, being technocratic, has no true religion, and so no priests or priestesses. No god or idol to worship." He ran his hand down the kimono, feeling the material. "Interesting to think that a world with such views on divinity and spiritualism would have such powers we thought impossible.
