Hey guys! I know, I never update. I know, I say that every time I actually do update. I know, I never read, but I do still love you all. I know, I say that every time too. I know, I suck at LJ connectivity these days. I'm sorry. I really do mean to update. I want to have a record of the stuff I do and think. I really do want to know what ( Read more... )

Sheer persistence will in the end get you through. Searching for a professional job is, itself, a full time job. Have you thought about getting a networking list together? More then just applying for jobs, collect the folks in the field you know, write or email them and see if you can get any pointers / recommendations toward open positions.

Networking is often the difference between getting and not getting a professional job, PARTICULARLY in an economy this depressed.

I wish you the best of luck. *HUG*

Job searching is one of the toughest things any professional will ever do, if you aren't a super-outgoing, gregarious, memorable type that the senior people of their field remember when the time comes.

But I try hard to follow the words of a certain wise old character from Star Wars. "Never tell me the odds!".

But I will say that simply applying to want-ads -- even scientific want-ads -- will likely never get you a job. You have to Know People, and if you don't already, this is a good time to start.

BTW, speaking of networking, what is your field? Have you tried usajobs.gov, the federal government jobs website?

I'm in ecological engineering, and I have about six search agents running on usajobs.gov. Most of the stuff I've applied to comes from there. : )

I know you will find something! This is a really hard economy to get a job in. Persistence counts!

Anything we all can do to help? What kind of jobs are you looking for? Are you considering Post-docs? Maybe we can all help with the networking.

Good Luck!! We are pulling for you!

Yeah, post-docs are definitely on the list. I'm looking for some sort of environmental planning / recovery job, ecosystem restoration, urban planning, sustainable infrastructure development, etc. I'll take any help I can get! : )

Thanks!
