Well you've convinced me to see it. I saw a trailer somewhere and was very intrigued but you've made me want to see it now

that's great Scott!

it's definitely worth it. i bought it at Tower the other day for $14.99. it's on sale since ti was just released last Tuesday. it's interestign, even if you know nothing about the guy. are you familiar with his music at all? there's very little of it to be found. he never had a US recording contract, even though he was based in New York.

I really don't know too much about him. Just that he was closely linked to Andy and the Factory

that i didn't know. the association wasn't mentioned in the film whatsoever. he did surround himself with interesting characters, even though they may not appear to be as interesting today as they were then.

both those topics are discussed in the film. it's cool how those opportunities opened for him and Joey Arias. sadly Joey isn't interviewed for the film. i've yet to confirm if in fact he is still alive.

I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THIS.

How much of the Bowie SNLs were included?

there's a chapter on it where tehy show clips, talk about the before/during/after, but sadly the performances are not included in their entirety. it's funny how they only used clips of TVC15 and The Man Who Sold The World, yet in the film's closing credits, they only show the copyright information for TVC15 and Boys Keep Swinging.

damn it, i was really hoping that they would be cleaned up and preserved in their entirety as bonus features. 25+ years later, and they're still the most inventive musical performances to appear on SNL. I am still anxiously awaiting this collection.

Can I link one of my LJ friends to this entry? She loves Nomi. She also likes that little band from Ireland that you and I share a fondness for. :-)

I read the entry and was gonna comment, but he's got it set so that only friends can comment. This is what I was gonna say:

"Hello! I'm the one Jen was referring to. :) I'm always thrilled to see someone else who likes Nomi. I was thinking of writing a review of the movie in my LJ, now that I've watched it, oh, about four times. Heh. It's nice to meet you. I would have to say that Nomi and U2 are my twin obsessions."

Heh. :)

That looks cool. I have an album of his, and it's very cool. Operatic pop, you know.

Look at Bowie in those stills trying to steal the show. Meh.

I'll look for this dvd, but obscure stuff often isn't released here - it's not worthwhile doing a pressing to sell just 10 copies, you know. Stupid dvd regions. Biggest con in the world.

yeah, i have ENCORE on cd. i'm thinking of picking up SIMPLE MAN and KLAUS NOMI when i next see them used.

Bowie isn't stealing the show, he was the show. David asked Klaus and Joey Arias to sing back up and perform with him. i have all three songs in their entirety on VHS. they did TVC15, The Man Who Sold The World, and Boys Keep Swinging. when they aired Boys Keep Swinging, NBC silenced the line "other boys check you out". you see his mouth move and hear the music, but the tunred his mike down for that line only. how gay is that?!

i'm sure it can be ordered online for your region.

Oh, you'd be surprised. There's no region 4 pressing of Showgirls, so I had to order the American version.

Luckily I have a multi region dvd player.
