Ha! Well, the last time you were here, there were a few other things going on :).

I wish I could get a closer look at the bookcases! How are they stained and what is the wood again?

They are maple, and the finish is Danish oil in "natural." I really like Danish oil and will probably use it in future projects. It's less error-prone than stain, and on maple it looked better.

We really want two big book-cases to flank the fireplace in our family room. We are on a pretty tight furniture budget, and hubby is very fussy about furniture. Nothing but solid hardwood. So he is starting to talk about building them himself, and oogling pieces of wood at Menards. I am so far refraining from asking him where he thinks he'll find the time to do this.
