OK, so my attempt to lock down a venue on the weekend didn't really go anywhere.

Instead I bribed Tracey into giving me a hand with a short list last night, and sent out some e-mail enquiries to the 8 most likely places.

Today I received the following responses: ( The Jubilee, Hotel Orient, Story Bridge Hotel... )

Can I grab any of the other details you got from these guys about the minimum spends?

Only downside to the story bridge hotel is start time and road access with Riverfire ie can people get to your gig with the various road closures/bridge closure?

Oh that is true. Plus SBH is kinda ass to get to by forms of public transport that don't stop at 9pm.

Minimum spend at Hotel Orient is $1500 for the Elephant Lounge, SBH offered $2000 for me for that smaller room for the night :/

Realistically, the size of the room probably won't affect the number of people that show up, so I can't really compare them that way, but for a club-type situation I can see that being a big deal.

The Jubilee haven't termed it as a 'minimum spend', they just said the room is free as long long as I buy "a few platters". Which won't be a problem, let me tell you.

A lot of the places we looked at were 'tell us what you want and we'll tell you how much that costs' scenarios. Or worse, 'tell us how much money you have and we'll tell you if there's a suitable room' scenarios. Eh.
