Metaphysical

I've said that there's no logical reason to believe in the metaphysical, I'll amend this slightly. I can find no logical reason to believe in the metaphysical, that doesn't mean there isn't one out there. However, I need a new working definition of metaphysical. Here's why ( Read more... )

I don't accept the premise that Jesus' existence can be historically corroborated. You mentioned Pliny, Celsus and Josephus, but these are not contemporary sources. The earliest being written around sixty years after Christ's supposed death ( ... )

The fact that you think "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence," is silly, is perhaps the biggest disconnect between us ( ... )

This is entirely ad hominem. And barely worth response.

How dare you assume you know me.

Saying that the knowledge/age ratio is falling, is not the same as saying I'm losing my grip.

You, and all who remain anonymous, are cowards.

Anonymity means we're cowards?

I don't know you, but I know of you. If knowing who I am makes you feel any better, my name is Chris Pass.

Ah, only close friends of your husband can point out his blatant ignorance. Good to know. Thanks Shawna.

p.s.

the above poster wasn't trying to point out "blatant ignorance" he was making assumptions and guesses for why ethan has come to some of the conclusions he has, not to mention taking the arrogant stance of believing to know the validity of ethan's experiences.

Chris Pass! We saw The Watchmen together right? You were a few seats down and never said anything?

I'm glad you came out, it really does even the playing field. It doesn't make your argument any stronger, or weaker, it just makes you look more brave. And you should be brave, you have nothing to fear from me.

I think what I think. Needless to say, your arguments thus far have been unconvincing, to me. That's not to say they wouldn't convince anyone.

As far as comments that go beyond the scope of discussion, such as personal attacks and the like, I hope we can come back to being above them.

HAHA! Yep, that's me! :D

And to be honest Ethan, the only reason I never openly told you who I was from the jump was that, if by some chance we actually had a real life conversation, I didn't want it to revolve around this. I like talking about this stuff to an extent, but I've found that in relationships, especially with friends that differ in beliefs, it's much easier to maintain a friendship when these kinds of topics don't consume your discussion.

And I apologize for some of the things I said (note: the anonymous statements still were NOT me). I think now that identities are out in the open, it will force us (me) to watch my P's and Q's. ;)

I agree. It's been my modus operandi to not broach the topic when in public. I'm pulling away from that slightly, but I would always respect someone's wish to not talk about any subject. I'm firmly against the imposition of beliefs, even when my own. I do believe it important to discuss things though, even controversial subjects, as long as the discussions have an air of openness. It's important to recognize when someone is just closed minded to new information.
