010 // Ned 'n Dead Ted

Jun 01, 2010 14:43

Hey, uh. Can we just... not? With the killing people? Please?

It's not very polite - it doesn't set a good example. And this is only one man's opinion, but I think this whole ship could do without... the carnage. Y'know.

[Private to Tim]

So, Sylar said... he had your permission to do - well, what he did to Ted.

I'm not saying - I mean, I'm sure, I  ( Read more... )

Once more, Ned, with feeling. A little confidence wouldn't be out of the question either.

Stop killing each other.

Please.

It's complicated and I don't like it. I'm trying to get Sylar to trust me, and Ted...gave his okay. I didn't know what to do after that.

Yeah, uh. Ted told me a bit about it.

Like I said, far be it for me to tell you how to handle your inmate, I just - it worries me, seeing that kind of violence. It's... harmful. Not only to the person who's the victim of it, but to the perpetrator as well. At least in my experience, anyway.

It's a tough situation all around, I guess.

I just wanted to say that I agree with you. Completely.

Thanks. I just - there's enough death around without our adding to it, you know?

But then again, throw a bunch of prisoners together, I guess some measure of killing is unavoidable. But that doesn't mean we have to sit back and condone it.

Er. Yeah.

I really know exactly what you're saying. If only we could convince some of the inmates that violence doesn't improve anyone's life, especially their own.

Considering all previous pleas have fallen on deaf ears, I doubt you'll have better luck with this one.

...Doesn't mean I can't try.

No. But it'll take a more active approach to ensure that your words are put across. Firmer way of speaking might help. We're taught to use the terms 'son' or 'miss' when appropriate, taking a deep breath before beginning to speak, making sure your posture is correct.

Violence tends, more often than not to be a reaction borne out of fears. People aren't reassured by those in authority not sounding terribly sure of themselves, you know?

I - The thing is, I'm not really an figure of authority. Or at least, I wasn't speaking as one. Just, y'know, an ordinary guy.

That's good advice. Although I don't know that I'd ever feel okay calling someone 'son'. That just doesn't sound much like me.

Yup you've got two men and one woman agreeing with you here, so your opinion isn't lonely.

I seem to have just missed a spate of, er, killings but apparently they happen quite a lot. Seems unfair doesn't it? The victim suffering the death toll? Maybe it should be the other way around. Killer gets the... kill toll.

Not that it counts for much.

[There's a pause; Ned is sitting there blinking at his communicator. XD]

Uh... yeah, actually. That'd be much more fair. Seeing as how the victim is just that - a victim - it seems awfully harsh to have to die and then be punished on top of that. I mean, that's just the way it works, though.

Are you - have you been around long? Because as far as I can tell, no one makes it to two months without seeing a half-dozen murders. That's... it's kind of the Barge way. Unfortunately.

Well, I arrived, and then I sort of... fell asleep for two weeks. Apparently that happens here as well.

I guess I have more, murders to look forward to in the future then.

The same thing happened to me!

It was... disconcerting.

Hate to break it to you, but - yeah. On the up-side, death here is generally temporary. And it's usually pretty clear who's guilty. If not, there're a fair number of people on board with experience, ah... delving into those sorts of matters.
