Maxie loved shoes.
That wasn’t really surprising. After all, what self respecting woman in a post Sex and the City age didn’t? But shoes weren’t just an accessory, a way to show off her killer legs, or a way to flaunt the money she didn’t really have yet.
For her, they were a symbol of everything she was going to achieve.
Maxie knew that everyone assumed she was without goals or ambitions; that if you wanted one of Mac’s “daughters” with a future, you had to look to Robin or Georgie. She knew she suffered by comparison to her sisters, and mostly she tried to not let it bother her. But when people would ask them what their plans for the future were and would ignore her entirely, it stung a little.
Her future had always been uncertain, but that didn’t mean she didn’t have plans for it.
Almost no one knew about her dreams to become a fashion designer like Chloe Morgan, or to run her own magazine like Kate Howard, or to be able to own a boutique filled with beautiful things, like Carly.
If Maxie’s insides couldn’t be beautiful, what the rest of the world saw was damn well going to be.
When Maxie finally saved enough for her first pair of Manolos, she cried. When she left the store wearing them, she instantly felt stronger, more confident, more assured that the future she wanted was within her grasp.
