Before the rain . . .

Jun 06, 2016 00:03

Everyone has been gearing up and talking about the storm -- heavy rain, winds and flooding. It is supposed to be fast moving, so it could give little warning and move very rapidly-quick downpours, stop and repeat. We have already had several hard rains today and it is supposed to continue through the night and tomorrow ( Read more... )

Oh, how I do love poincianas!

The Red Bellied Woodpecker looks 'made' for that tree.

And we both seem to be getting rain - and lot of it!

Beautiful lotus pond, btw.

I do, too!
Yes, I saw where you were getting lots of rain, too, and cold. We're getting hot and steamy. :))

If you could get some of the lotus, anyone could have a little pond like this in their yard. I wonder if they will eventually transfer them into the big pond.

Poincianas are lovely spreading trees with their brilliant red flowers. It's a pity more don't grow up here, but they have to be babied in their early years. There are a few in town.

I have never seen lotus grown in a pond like this. People do grow them in dams down at the community. I have even been to a lotus party down there once, as I think I've told you before.

Hmmm...I have lotus seeds!

Fantastic set of photos, Kathy--even for you. I think my fave is the Night Heron between the two bloom clusters(of the poincianas, I presume). And the woodpecker with the blooms in the background is great. Those lotus are gorgeous... No wonder you love that park.

That Night Heron landed at the very top of a small poinciana tree and first faced left, then right, then spotted me and flew. I got those two pictures in a matter of seconds.

The woodpecker was almost lost up there with that background.

The park was established in the early 1990s and I've been going there almost from the beginning. It's where I took some of my very first nature and wildlife pictures. It used to be a nursery and palm tree farm. It has really come a long way.
