on the hunt - 319

I never got anything cut out to put in the kiln today. One of our good friends has been in the hospital with knee surgery. We had him and his wife (Jim & Gail) over for dinner, then our neighbors across the street asked us all over for a drink after dinner and some boiled peanuts that he fixed. I have never had them before and guess I had a ( Read more... )

Thank you!

Oh my, I shelled one and popped it in my mouth totally expecting something different. I almost spit it out it was so horrible. I guess the words mushy, soft and tasteless just do not go with the word nut.

No, it wasn't knee replacement. Almost a year ago Jim fell at work on his knee and was diagnosed with a torn meniscus, which is actually pretty common I've found out. But he went through worker's comp and the doctor they sent him to really flubbed up the surgery, so from the beginning it has been nothing but problem after problem. His knee swelled up at one point so big it was unbelievable to look at. Anyway he had to have drainage tubes and bags installed and ended up getting an infection that they just could not get rid of. So finally another doctor went in and cleaned up everything and he now has a pick inserted through his vein to the heart that gives him penicillin all day long (he'll be on this for 4-6 weeks) and he has something called a wound pump on his knee that pumps and drains constantly ( ... )

I love boiled peanuts! I'm sorry you do not like them.

I guess it just depends on your taste buds. I shouldn't have been so negative. The consensus was about 50-50 from the group that ate them last night.

Let's say it like this: I think each person must develop a taste for wine. I do not like white wine; I only like a sweet red mild wine.

Boiled peanuts are a snack from the deep south which most Americans, I believe, have never heard of, much less tasted. I was a little girl visiting my grandparents deep in the Georgia backwoods when I first tasted boiled peanuts.

We all have our likes and dislikes :)

Cute little nativity scene. It is amazing how much information you communicated with just a few simple shapes. Was it fiddly to make? I think your customers will like them.

When I first tried boiled peanuts as a kid, I didn't like them much, but they grew on me. I like them roasted best, and the peanut butter that can be made from roast peanuts.

Did your neighbour boil them in salty water? I think that is why I liked them - for the salt - but too many can make one feel sick.

Thank you! That was the idea. I definitely wanted to keep it simple. No need for a lot of fuss. It WAS "fiddly" to make! That is a perfect word to describe it. I had always been so used to "working big" and now this tiny detail work is something new for me. But I'm adapting and getting used to it.

Yes, he boiled them in water using rock salt. I love roasted peanuts and peanut butter, and I guess I was expecting that same taste.

Very cute Creche ornament. I predict they will sell well.

MyJeff and I tried boiled peanuts from a convenience store at the side of the highway in Alabama one time. One time was more than enough for us.

I like your prediction and I hope it comes true!

Down south they are like a staple for some. They are for sale everywhere from venders along the road. But, yeah, I'm with you on that one.
