I never got anything cut out to put in the kiln today. One of our good friends has been in the hospital with knee surgery. No, it wasn't knee replacement. Almost a year ago Jim fell at work on his knee and was diagnosed with a torn meniscus, which is actually pretty common I've found out. But he went through worker's comp and the doctor they sent him to really flubbed up the surgery, so from the beginning it has been nothing but problem after problem. His knee swelled up at one point so big it was unbelievable to look at. Anyway he had to have drainage tubes and bags installed and ended up getting an infection that they just could not get rid of. So finally another doctor went in and cleaned up everything and he now has a pick inserted through his vein to the heart that gives him penicillin all day long (he'll be on this for 4-6 weeks) and he has something called a wound pump on his knee that pumps and drains constantly.

The doctor told Pete to wait as long as he could on the knee surgery. He said they don't last but 8-10 years and you don't want to have them when you are too young or you'll probably have to have another one. Anyway, the other hip for Pete will be scheduled next and the knee is on down the road. Yes, poor Jim is right, that guy has been through so much pain. He is in his mid 50s.
