Thanks, Joan. I've got lots more to share from Myakka.

I'll check out the contest. Thanks for the heads up.

I like pictures #1 and 6 and I agree with jblindsight that the shot is fantastic. I'm flabbergasted that those birds would get that close to the alligator! I also agree that your pics are worthy of entering the Audubon photo contest.

I was shocked, too, and so scared I was going to be witness to something horrible. Thank you.

That first photo made me lol. I think the birds might be like my chooks. When that goanna was under the car, they gathered around and made warning noises. But when the goanna went for them, they were ready and got out of the way before the goanna could get them. So, these birds may have been warning others of the alligator's presence.

I wonder if alligators usually eat many birds. Here the crocs mainly eat pigs, calves and other mammals (including humans) which drink fom the water's edge.

But, yeah, those birds sure were tempting fate! Great pictures.

Yes, they sure didn't act like they were worried. :))

The alligators around here would go after and eat anything if they are hungry. I kept my distance, because they can be lightning fast.
