Irene . . .

Aug 27, 2011 15:49

Last Monday we thought we might get at least some rain from Irene, but we never got a drop as it stayed on the east side of Florida and headed up the coast. We have had steady winds and gusts 20-35 mph for a few days now. Unbelievable how far away it is, and yet we are feeling some of her power ( Read more... )

I love her photos! The first one is awesome. The weather here is beautiful right now - sunny and warm. I wonder when, or if, Irene will get here. (EDIT - I checked and it looks like we won't get any effects from it...)

She'll be happy to read that! She has got an excellent eye for photography and takes the most interesting pictures like I've never seen before!

You may not get anything, not even rain or a little wind.

Did Dave get home yet?

I didn't even know there was a hurricane. It's been raining on and off but it's been nice garden weather.
Love the pics. That is an awesome Cowboys and Aliens poster! I've been to New York I think 3 times. It's very cool.

Monday it became a hurricane. After it passed over Cuba, they weren't sure where it was going to go, and originally had it affecting all of Florida, but then it veered to the east and continued up the US coast. I have several friends/family in WV, NC, Washington area, NY and PA, so we've been following it closely.

We never got a drop of rain from it, but I bet the rain you got was from Irene since you are further east/inland than we are. Today it has been so hot and humid and windy here--it's been almost unbearable outside. Our heat index was 108 today!

I was hoping you'd see that C&A ad. I knew you'd like it.

My friend loves it, too. This is perhaps an understatement. :)

It was her destiny to live out her days there.

Yep, that looks like a wet city. No bad wind, though, that I could see. Your freind is a good photographer and documented events as they happened - thanks for putting them up.

It's weird that the hurricane should go north up the coast and inland. I bet New York doesn't get too many hurricanes! (I keep wanting to call them cyclones).

Hmmm . . . you got me thinking, because I thought a cyclone was different from a hurricane, but according to this, they are the same.
I googled this info:
What’s the real difference between a tornado, a hurricane, and a cyclone or lets just say Cyclone vs Hurricane ( ... )

Yes, that's my understanding, that they are one and the same. Your's sounds more exciting, though! Thanks for the quote and explanation.

I read somewhere else after I had commented here that New York had one in the 1980s, so yes, not very common - a thing to remember.

Yes, it was neat getting pictures and comments from her as the storm progressed and got nearer. I had read or heard that, too, about 1983 being the last time a big storm touched them.
