Poor thing. He looks poofy from hunger. I wonder how long he was in there? No more than a day because birds need to eat. Was probably dehydrated too which is why he wouldn't move he was weak. Glad he finally made it out. Makes me think of the cardinal that got into my aviary and I had to catch. I just grabbed him though. A Mockingbird bite doesn't hurt, but a cardinal does. Yes I know all this from experience. I've been bitten by all kinds of birds.
Unless he'd been in there and had stayed in there when the overhead door was opened, I don't know how long he'd been in there. You would have thought he would fly out when it was open. So maybe he was just in there overnight cause we do open it several times a day usually. But I'm sure he was scared being shut up like that, even if just for a night.
I thought of you and your cardinal experience when all this was going on. Now I wonder if he would have let us catch and hold him. I just thought trying to catch him would have frightened him all the more, so we opted with just trying to prod him out.
All's well that ends well, they say. And it added a little excitement to our day.
And here's something interesting about them. They sing at night. We have lots of mockingbirds in our area, and especially in the spring time, there have been several that sing outside our bedroom window the most beautiful songs! I have woke up from a sound sleep many times in the dead of night and heard them singing. And they will imitate the songs and sounds of many other birds, too.
I was thinking like Des, that the little bird must be all tired and close to exhaustion by the look on his face. What good people you were to gently usher him out. I'm glad the bird was all healthy and well and singing his heart out the very next morning. What a special experience this must have been for you.
And apologies to the little bird if it was a 'she'!

That was so nice to see he was able to get out, with hubby's help, and suffered no ill effects ~ as the next day he was singing ... to no doubt let the rest of his friends know how nice you and Pete are. :)
