Today I have a really fun rec for all of you: PodCastle

PodCastle is a podcast (as you may have guessed from the name) that specializes in fantasy short stories. Every week there is a new short story by both famous and not-so-well-known authors, read by varying but very great readers. I also love The Cambist and Lord Iron, and have listened to it several times. However, I think my favorite PodCastle story has to be #88: Another End Of The Empire, by Tim Pratt.

An evil overlord tries to avert a prophecy in the most awesome way possible.

I originally heard about PodCastle through its sister podcast, EscapePod, which is a science fiction podcast. There are many lovely stories over there as well. EscapePod has been going even longer than PodCastle and they have quite an impressive archive. :)

Oh, thanks for the rec! I'm just making my way listening to the stories, but I haven't encountered that one so far. Sounds awesome, though, and goes right to the top of my listening list now! :-)

And I haven't tried any of EscapePod's stories, either, but I'm sure I will. I never expected to like podcasts because usually when listening to audiobooks I get impatient with listening when I'd be faster reading myself. But for short stories the audio format works surprisingly well for me. :-)

Anyway, it seems like we have quite some things in common. Want to be friends?

I've listened to "Another End Of The Empire" now and you were right - it was really awesome! I loved the Dark Lord trying to think modern and not really realizing how much good he was actually doing with his cunning plan of stopping the prophecy. Saw the twist at the end coming pretty early on, but nevertheless this was a really fun story! So thanks again for the rec. :-)
