Wimshurst Influence Machine

Jake von Slatt of Steampunk Workshop posted instructions for "the construction of an electrostatic generator of electricity, a Wimshurst Influence machine, using parts and materials commonly available at your local home center and hardware store." The parts are only $100 new, so it could be cheaper with used parts. I so want to make one!

Oddly enough, this has been a tool that some model railroaders have advocated for "planting grass" on their layouts. You can buy some sort of green-dyed synthetic fibers and then use the electrostatic charge from the Wimhurst to make the grass look like it is standing up....
