Jake von Slatt of Steampunk Workshop posted instructions for "the construction of an electrostatic generator of electricity, a Wimshurst Influence machine, using parts and materials commonly available at your local home center and hardware store." The parts are only $100 new, so it could be cheaper with used parts. I so want to make one!

I love Instructables. There are so many great ideas for making things. I get a weekly email with a summary of some of the ideas. If only I had time to make some of them!

Today's email contained this fun project: a Clockwork Piston out of a cigar box, clock parts, and spent bullet shells.

Since del.icio.us seems to be having some serious access problems, I am going to start investigating an alternative. It's very annoying not to be able to look at all the bookmarks I have so carefully saved! Meanwhile, I will just save them here.

I found a couple of cool steampunk articles in IEEE Spectrum via a steampunk community on LJ.

Happy birthday dragonazure

One of the gifts I gave Eldred is a steampunk brass combo sundial and compass. More steampunk prezzies are on their way from eBay sellers. The cats gave him a hampster dance card that has a moving hampster on the front and plays the hampster dance song when you open it. Heh! Those cats have a good sense of humor!

Lots of folks have been posting steampunk photos from DragonCon. I thought this clockwork dog was especially cool.

I am still researching steampunk. I joined several LJ communities and am enjoying looking at the costumes and gadgets. I really hope the people in Atlanta are able to get together the gathering for the fall in Helen. That would be really cool.
