my freshman mock trial team swept at districts and finished 5th of 19 teams. i can't even begin to express how proud i am of these kids. it is so satisfying to see them improve and perform so well. they won't be going to state, because they gave their spot to the obviously much deserving varsity, but i'm confident that these kids will do ( Read more... )

That is so great to hear that Prep is still doing so well at Districts. Who won? What kind of dirty tricks did UPrep play? I miss you and mock trial!
Love,
Colleen
P.S. My life is currently consumed by my thesis.

Colleen! It's good to hear from you; i hate that we're never in the same place at the same time. Franklin beat U Prep in the finals. UPrep did some interesting things when it came to objecting to the admission of evidence, all case-specific things that were sneaky to the max. i'll tell you all about the case when we next meet! what is your thesis on? i'm silkscreening tshirts/sweatshirts for the mt kids with the slogan "all's fair in love and mocktrial." i never got over the fact that our team never managed to order sweatshirts.
love love love,
elisa

I know it's a bummer that I never get to see you! I won't be back in Seattle until after graduation. Guess who our speaker is?! Bill Clinton!!! I am so excited (although not that excited to actually graduate.)
I am writing my thesis on Soviet Jewish Refugees. I am examining the conditions in the Soviet Union that forced them to seek emigration, the US human rights foreign policy and refugee policies that attracted them to the US, and the experience as a refugee. It is a beast of a paper. I'm in the library right now, in fact, "working" on my thesis.
Love, love, love, and mocktrial!

Hooray for your freshman!! and for varsity, too! I'm so glad to hear they're still doing well. I'm sure you had a lot to do with their success. Go them! go you!
