Rod Stewart did me in today.

I’ve been needing a good cry for awhile now, since I just haven’t been letting myself go to that place where I let my emotions loose.  There have been teary times, a few of them.  Like, for example, last week when I started writing about my family history.  Even the rather detached recounting of my mother and aunt’s experience brought forth ( Read more... )

I need a good cry too but I am afraid I will cry for weeks to come if I begin now. I am still in full function mode. I cannot afford a breakdown of mega-proportions....

E, you're in my heart, to quote Rod Stewart. :)

You too Clare. You're going through much more than me right now, and I'm in awe of your strength through it all.

There are times when one never knows what will affect us deeply; and when already affected by tragic circumstance small things can trigger off emotional release.
May today's tears be of happiness.

shame there is no such job as official mourner any more, you could rake it in.

isn't it weird how the culminative greifs keep their act together and all come out at once. at least it was a reasonable enough context to cry in.

i get a bit suspicious when i haven't cried for some time, because i know anything could spark me off...

That is so true -- that feeling when you know that anything can spark it off. I felt slightly guilty about the main reasons underlying my tears, but not really. In a way that's what ceremonies like that are for -- to remind us of our own humanity.

"so I kissed him and held him close, breathing in his being, smelling his sweet skin and hair"

I certainly can understand how those words would trigger such strong enotions for you. But what a great greeting you got from your little man. That must have been a tonic.

I know how you feel. My (ex) wife chose our 'wedding song', Joe Cocker's version of "You Are So Beautiful (to me)" and all I could think while it played was how so inappropriate it was, how much I could not relate to it, and that WAS on our Wedding day. Not a good sign.
