I don't know either of those places. I don't think we have them. There are some chains here though. Unless I get recommendations for or against local places, I'll probably just go to New Look.

I think you would look good with wireframe rectangular glasses. a lot of people these days have bold frames in all kinds of colors... i have a bold frame with the half-inch wide glasses-to-ear pieces but i stayed with a neutral color. i get so many compliments on a frame! i would bring a friend (or ask help from one of the workers), try on a TON of frames and just start to narrow it down, but try on all kinds of styles, even ones that you think won't look good, it could grow on you.

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely try to rope someone into coming with. I'll probably need them because I'm a bad shopper - you know, a typical man. I'm the type who'd probably try on three different frames and then just take whichever I liked best.

It'd be good to prevent that this time, though.

It's hard for me to say, because the ones I had up until the weekend were so out of date. I didn't like how they looked and I know I need a stronger prescription now, so when I get new ones, it's possible I will wear them all the time.

I'm looking forward to being able to see distances SO CLEARLY!

I'm in the same situation: I've had my glasses since my last year of high school and desperately need to go get a new prescription and frames.

I just happen to be poor.

I feel your pain. That's pretty much how it came to this for me, too. And I'm not all that fashion-conscious (duh) so old frames on my face didn't bug me much.

I chose a pretty simple model back then so it carried me through the years easily. Recently my mom shot me a "Your glasses are so out of style! Go get new ones!"

My mom, of all people. Although I think it's her strategy to get me to go.

Check your mailbox for junk mail. There might be flyers for sales on glasses. The place I went to to get my new glasses is very close to me and very far away from you and not worth recommending to you.

There's usually a person at the optometrist's office who will help you pick out frames that suit you.

Well, recommend it to me anyway. I *will* be in your neighbourhood on Friday night...

I forget the name of it, but it's on St-Denis just below Liege (just a block away from the building that Steve, Wendy and I live in.) It's in the same building as a CLSC. I went there because I got an ad in the mail and they were having a sale. I don't remember the exact price I paid, but it was less than 200 bucks for an eye exam and new glasses and I got the anti-scratch and anti-glare lenses. The receptionist was a very nice guy who really seemed to enjoy helping people pick frames.

Nah. I've already missed the boat on that stuff. Think I'm gonna go with something more lasting.
