OH MY GOD. Why didn't anyone tell me that the Yakitate! Japan mangaka was doing a shounen manga about doctors!?? It was like...the only thing missing in my life! Shounen doctor series!! I know there's other doctor manga, but they're not really my cup of tea; shounen is usually my favorite because it has the most positive and inspiring feel.

Haha, I just read the entire 1st chapter already cuz I couldn't stop flipping through it. XD You know, at this point, if they don't mention the Cincinnati Children's hospitals and their huge reputation for top-of-the-line pediatric medicine next, I'm going to be a little disappointed. :P

For what it's worth, it seems like there's a pretty good shortage of a LOT of Pediatric specialties here in the US, too!

Usually because specializing takes extra years for zero to minimal increase in pay, so most people aren't interested - but if you think you might like pediatrics it's a good possibility you'll be in high demand!

I suppose that makes sense--like when I was in the rural hospital, they were talking about how there wasn't a child neurologist within a 50+ mile radius, so unless you're in a hub I guess you're sort of screwed. I do know someone doing a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology, but I guess it shouldn't surprise me to know that pediatric fellowships aren't popular. D= Money and coolness is certainly a strong motivator for people. One thing I do know, you'll always have a job if you're a doctor, since it seems like there's a perpetual shortage. (3 week wait for my sleep doctor!? but that's not as bad as the 6 month new patient wait for the endocrinologist.)
