Alright, so I'm really curious about how y'all feel about our little "justice" system. I was under the impression that the corruption and racism of the legal system (and that applies to pre- post- and during prison time) were very well known and understood by... breathing, thinking mofos and especially POC. But sometimes I'll see posts with people ( Read more... )

HUmanitarian:

Prison was discendant from dungeons - a notion created in the 1700's. We haven't updated our justice system since 1700. That is rediculous.

Common Sense:

Completely ignoring the overwhelming statistics and disparities that outline why certain folks go to jail, do you really want to send someone convicted of a crime to live in tight quarters with people who are violent, or at the very least, can pass on MORE knowledge about how to perform criminal acts. I quote the movie "Blow" "I went to prison with A Bachelor of Marijuana, I came out a Doctorate of Cocaine."

I'm saying! People act like they think it actually helps! Yes, pooling together law breakers with other even more adept law breakers is a sure fire way to make them STOP doing illegal activity. Yes...

Our justice system is run by human beings so it's full of injustices.
No, the current prison system is not working.

Absolutely useless (un)justice system.

The only good cop I know in my home town is serving an 11 year sentence for something he didn't do because he was an honest man in the middle of a den of theives.

He just wanted to stop people who were killing and beating other people...not infringe on people's personal freedoms or be a tool of an unjust system.

I think that prison systems, don't work as they are. If you are going to stick the folks there, at least educate them. Help them to learn how to lead productive lives. If they are drug users, when they come in, put them into programs. Hell, I'd go as far as to say, educate them, and help them get jobs when they leave. The way the system is now, criminals only learn how to become better criminals. I could go, on and on, about this subject. I just may at some point.
