Alright, so I'm really curious about how y'all feel about our little "justice" system. I was under the impression that the corruption and racism of the legal system (and that applies to pre- post- and during prison time) were very well known and understood by... breathing, thinking mofos and especially POC. But sometimes I'll see posts with people all but praising the notion of prison and applauding the idea of sending people there. (and for the record, this is something I see in a LOT of folk not just a few).
So I'm wondering what your thoughts are and also what are your expectations about the "justice" system, specifically in regards to prison.
For as long as I can remember the idea of prison has been presented as something that will rehabilitate those who are forced to go there. However the more I learned about it the more I realized there is VERY little rehabilitation going on there. And a lot more warehousing. So do we really think that storing "evildoers" for a period of time (with other "evildoers") then shoving them out the door is rehabilitation? What do we (as in the general population. because obviously a judge or lawyer doesn't give a fuck either way) expect out of them in the long run? Do we care if they go back to their old ways or suffer trying to "do good" or die? Why do we expect so much from them yet so little from the prison system that is supposedly serving them and us by this idea of “rehabilitation?”
I know that's a lot so just pick ONE question. Or better yet tell me your thoughts on the prison system. Especially if you're one of the folks rallying to put the entire world outside of 30 people in prison. Do you think mass imprisonment would end crime?
Oh and
here's a nice reminder of how just the justice system is. Hey, he was in prison for 19 years, but they finally freed him so the system works!!
Now don't fall all over yourselves to reply to this entry. =)
