If we don't learn from the past we're doomed to repeat it

With all of the evidence to show that there's a serious problem in NY between cops and minorities, this guy still keeps his blinders up. Bias or not, that's ridiculously naive.

Random IM from a cop turned into this... )

I hate it when people do that ish too..Drop it when it gets serious. But, he lost all his cool points the minute he said "Diallo is not black," cuz I just knew the convo was gonna go downward from there. >:o( I can't stand when people say Africans (or any other black foreigners) are not black. Ignorance.

WORD! He needs to open his eyes...but it sounds like he's new school, hopefully it wont rub off on him.

Are things changing around the City? I hear it is. Like there's a new admiration for cops, and cops are actually being cooler with the people. Is that true?

With all of the false patriotism going on people are just in love with the cops right now. Cops and firemen are like gods at the moment. But it'll subside. I don't know when, but I know it will. And things will go right back to how they were before.

"I don't know when, but I know it will."

you know when? when someone else gets beat down, or it's found some minority gets falsely accused/arrested/convicted ..... it'll happen eventually if it hasn't already by the time i finish this .....

That was agonizing to read. He doesn't know why blacks are weary of cops and then asks who commits the most crime in Harlem as justification? What a naive idiot.

i'd like to have a convo like that w/ a cop ..... unfortunately i don't think i'd be as calm as you were ....

and i believe i tend to do what he said, "judge NYPD as one group" ...... but that's b-cuz when i see a group of them they tend to act as a group and not every black or minority standing close by each other is going to think the same way, or even know each other .....

i dunno ...... oh, and how did this convo start? did he {i'm assuming it's a guy} just IM you out of no where?

After the fact, I decided I wasn't gonna let him back down. The next time we talk I'm gonna bring it up again. He is the very person who needs to be talking about this problem. He can decide not to talk to me, if he wants, but he will hear me.

Pretty much. I think he used that AOL profile search thingy.
