[The communicator flickers to life only for the screen to be entirely white. After a moment, Ashe becomes vaguely visible, though she's looking off into the fog rather than into the device.]

This fog... bears similarity to the Mist which engulfs certain regions of Ivalice. Whether it has magical properties or not, it is equally as unsettling to ( Read more... )

I am not certain any amount of wind magic can clear this fog.

A suggestion, nothing more. It appears we can do little other than wait for it to clear.

The fog is troublesome... I'd actually like to explore the ruins of this city a bit, but the weather makes it impossible.

...Um... I take it by the way you say 'mist', it's a little something different than a light drizzle in your world?

Have you not been in the city for long? Forgive me, keeping track of people's movements inward and outward is difficult.

It is, yes. The Mist is a source of magical energy, still a mystery in many respects. Wandering within can be perilous.

I am. And there's nothing to forgive, really! I imagine it's pretty tough to keep track of much of anything here. Oh right! My name is Lillet Blan. You, miss?

It sounds a bit like Mana in my world, though Mana tends to crystallize.

What does the Mist do that makes it perilous?

It certainly isn't easy, by any standards. People come and are returned home so frequently...

[And now she's a little wistful.]

I am Ashelia Dalmasca. Ashe. In Ivalice, we utilize a stone known as magicite, which gives us the magical energy we need. The Mist is almost like a gaseous form of magicite. It can be useful, in moderation. Too much Mist, and it becomes potent enough to... to destroy entire cities.

I can't make out your words, there's too much static. Do you require assistance?

If only it were so easy. [Casting magic to clear the fog that is.]

... are you outside, Majesty?

The fog makes people uneasy, but yes. I know better than to expect an easy solution.

... I am on the rooftop. I had thought visibility may be improved from a height, that more of the city could be seen. I was wrong, to think so.

Are you planning on staying up there long? What is left of the roof cannot be very stable, Majesty.

I am on my way down, now. I did not venture away from the ladder, as the structure is indeed unstable. I was simply... curious.

You feel no ill effect?

I... must apologise for any lack of greeting on my part. Balthier must be incredibly glad, to see you again.

I cannot say. I know only that it is nothing like the Mist of Ivalice. It is strange.

There is no need. Yes, it would seem though I saw him not long ago. He said time works strangely here.

And equally as perilous, no doubt, from the report I have been hearing.

It does, yes. Both he and I have been here, in this city, for what feels like the longest of times. And Basch... the last he recalls of Ivalice was our entrance into Raithwall's Tomb.
