The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances Discussion Poll

Aug 11, 2010 09:37

I have to say, the first time I saw The Empty Child I was pretty darn freaked out. I think the moment that got me the most was the phone-in-the-house scene. I'm pretty sure I was holding my breath when the Doctor opened the door. :D The typewriter scene was another freaky moment for me. So...

Poll

1x09 the empty child, discussion, 1x10 the doctor dances

I found some moments creepy in the way that I found those twins from The Shining creepy. It didn't outright scare me but it sent shivers down my spine for sure.

Children can be very creepy.

I would have been more freaked out if I'd watched these episodes properly, I think. I'm gonna rewatch them later today I think -- I'm pretty sure I've only seen each one once, and it wasn't even in the right order, lirl.

LOL I was marathoning while streaming online, and if I ran into an episode that didn't work I just skipped ahead -- in this case Empty Child didn't work. And then I spent all of Doctor Dances going "?????????" and it wasn't until way later that I bothered to go back and watch it.

I also skipped all Christmas specials because North America has taught me that Christmas episodes are totally irrelevant!!! This led to lots of confusion when I hit s4.

HA! I didn't even realize I'd posted half a sentence. XD Just go ahead and fill in whatever you want on that.

And no wonder it didn't freak you out! You knew what was happening!

I think freaked is a better word than scared. There were definitely jumpy moments, quite a few of them even, but I didn't feel really terrified by any of it.

The caveat to this is that I'm really easily freaked but not so easily scared. I mean I find the Harry Potter movies freaky in places (my best friend laughed at me for being jumpy during the spider scene in CoS), scary/freaky is easy for me, scary/terrifying is a different animal (not literally a different animal, although when I used to actually ride my bike I was scared really by dogs when I was riding, but that's got it's own story.

I do tend to get scared/freaked at certain things. Horror that involves blood and guts just makes me nauseous, but gas-mask-wearing creepy children - that's freaky.

When I watched this, I literally kept looking over my shoulder, almost expecting to see something. Granted, I was alone and it was 3 am...but still...
