hm... I totally agree with you there... but it makes me wonder... could Ten have done it? The way he is in series three really makes me wonder...
I go back and forth on this. I think that in season 2, probably not. Post-Doomsday, yes. I think Tencwould have flipped with switch. Look at that expression in his eyes in The Runaway Bride when he's destroying the Arachnos. I think that Doctor could have flipped the switch. See how he treats the Family of Blood. But then he refrains from killing the last Dalek and tries to save the Master. So I'm not saying he would for sure have done it, but post-Doomsday Ten could definitely have flipped the switch.

Post-Doomsday...I think it's possible. It seems like he's not really keeping himself in check anymore.
Every time I watch this part, I get goose bumps. And then I start sobbing. Hehe. It's just the way they used the effects for his voice. One minute, he really sounds like he's speaking through a hologram and the next, when he looks right over at her, it's his voice completely unfiltered... *dissolves into tears*
I love how they did that. It was a brilliant bit of either writing or directing.
Oh I totally was too. My friend was already watching the second series when I started watching the first so I heard all about Chris regenerating into David. I think I had the opposite reaction that you did though. He was my first Doctor so it just made me even more sad at the end and more emotionally invested in his character. David I adore you to bits but I miss Chris... *sigh*
The beginning of this episode is the kind of quirky I'd come to expect from this show, and the "Please do not swear." "You have got to be kidding." cracks me up every single time.
That's up there on my list of favorite quotes from this two-parter. It always makes me giggle. XD
Jack's considered plastic surgery.
The thought of Jack considering plastic surgery makes me giggle. That's his vanity showing a bit there. ^_~ (But we all know that he doesn't really need it....for a very, very long time.)
The Doctor promises to get Lynda out alive. Of course, she doesn't make it out alive. This reminded me a LOT of Voyage of the Damned. The Doctor was busy making promises to save people there as well. But in the end, like Mr. Copper said, the Doctor doesn't get to choose who lives and who dies - even if they're sweet, or good, or more deserving, or less deserving. All the Doctor can do is his best, and I think it gets to him sometimes that his best can't save everyone.
Seriously. I always want to hug the Doctor afterwards.
I love how they did this scene. It's perfect. It's all about the Doctor. Sad as heck, but it definitely shows how much the Doctor loves Rose. =D
TOTALLY. He's completely gutted by it - it devastates him.
GAH. I wanted to throttle the Doctor (and throw a pillow at the TV) for doing that. Yes, I know he loves her and wants to keep her safe, but ARGH. Luckily, Rose isn't the type of gal to quietly accept things and took matters into her own hands. =D
They've got this little battle going on between them, that I don't think they'd ever be able to agree on: the other's safety/wellbeing comes first. You see it in moments like TPotW where the Doctor sends Rose away to safety, but she comes back to save him, and in things like Rose saying "who's going to hold his hand now?" in "Fear Her." Didn't matter if she was stuck somewhere, she's worried about the Doctor.
Indeed. The Doctor line was a bit cheesy, but it was perfect for the moment. The whole scene is just so romantic. And I *LOVE* John Barrowman's comment on this scene in the

That's SO true!! It amuses me (since it's always entertaining to imagine the spats they must have over the subject), but it also clearly demonstrates the depth of emotion they feel for each other.
Uh huh! They're both so very strong-willed, and both have a bit of "I'm protecting YOU, you nutter" going on while thinking that they themselves don't really need protecting.
(Yeah, still traumatized from the end of "Family of Blood," thanks.) WHEN ROES COMES BACK AND HUGS HIM THE HEALING MIGHT BEGIN.

I want you safe. My Doctor. I think you need a Doctor. You know what? You were fantastic. And so was I.
God I love those exchanges. The Doctor heals so much there. He's got this girl who loves him and wants to protect him and maybe he's not over all the pain in past and he might never, but he's got her. And that matters.

It really does seem to make all the difference in the world.
The scene that gets me tearing up in this pretty much without fail is Rose in that cafe with Jackie and Mickey. The Doctor thinking Rose dead is absolutely brilliant, but it doesn't quite bring tears to my eyes the way Rose shouting at everyone and everything does. You can just feel the hurt and anger and sheer terror at being stuck there while he's dying.
But yeah, this whole two parter is absolutely one of my favourites. Pretty much perfect for every second.
And no, I didn't see Rose as the Bad Wolf until she said it. Genius. Totally with you on the role reversal: very daring but it worked.

You really can. They both have very different reactions - the Doctor withdraws into himself, while Rose lashes out. But both are these very core reactions and you can see how they both hurt over each other in their own ways.

Hee! Isn't he cute? I love the cheesy lines too, though I can't think of anyone who doesn't.
TARDIS!!! *pets* Sorry, I just watched the Doctor Who movie and was completely traumatized. *flails*
