1. In this episode Rose is forced to confront both her past (going undercover as a dinner lady) and her future (meeting Sarah Jane). How does this impact her actions and behavior in this episode? What do you think it means about her larger character arc and larger themes in this episode?Oh man this is SO important. I think that Rose is feeling super insecure about everything after being a dinner lady for a few days because like... THAT WAS GOING TO BE HER LIFE. Remember how in "Rose" she was thinking about going to see about a job at the hospital canteen? So after Rose is basically forced to live what her life without the Doctor would have been, she finds out that the Doctor has had other companions and he leaves them behind. I think that is legitimately frightening to her. She had thought she had this special relationship with the Doctor and that they were going to be together forever. Traveling in the Tardis was going to be her life. And then suddenly the rug is pulled from under her feet. There have been others like her and the

RTD called Rose "wonderfully selfish", and Billie Piper also has said words to that effect. It's her biggest flaw, really, and it's on full display here
