This is one of my favorite specials. I too don't get the hate, but that's the case with just about *all* the ones the fandom likes to dump on.

BTW, the captain was played by Geoffrey Palmer, who I know best from As Time Goes By, my favorite Britcom.

Yeah, I find much the same - there are so few eps I dislike, that for most of them I just look at the complaints and go "What?" And then the only one I actually hate, the fandom loves, so, yeah.
