Help! Artist &/or technology types!

I just went to use my scanner with my new computer only to discover...they hate each other. Hypatia (my computer) even went so far as to inform me she does not recognize my scanner at all and even if she did they would never be compatible (actually the websites I looked up said they were incompatible models, but I found it funnier coming from 'Tia

I have a Canon MP470 that I bought on Amazon. It's a scanner, printer, and copier. It's pretty awesome and I think I paid less than $100 for it about three years ago. You could probably find a much better one if you are willing to spend a little more, or at least the "updated" version of the one I have. I've used it a lot and it has held up nicely! Not sure how great the scanning is for serious art, but if you were using one from 2001, something tells me it will be a big upgrade!
