Ginger hair ?

Feb 26, 2012 20:30

I am a natural ginger and sometimes my hair is prone to getting some sunbleached streaks in it if I'm out in the sun for too long. So now summer is over I decided to dye my lighter streaks ginger (for the first time)  to balance out my hair colour to be more Amyish. OMG NEVER EVER DYE GINGER HAIR GINGER :'( I had heaps of Casting creme gloss in ( Read more... )

There's a dye remover called B4 Colour that may well work for you -

Best of luck!!

I was going to suggest the same thing. Strip your hair, and if you want to recolor it be VERY careful as your hair will soak up the color and end up darker than you intended. If you redye go a few shades lighter and don't leave it on very long.

I'd suggest going to a salon and asking if they can do something about it, but chances are any sort dye remover is going to be more harsh to your hair than just letting it fade out. :/ Sadness.

If you're trying to fade the color quickly (without using dye remover), use a dandruff or clarifying shampoo every time you wash. Or, you can always use dishwashing soap (such as Dawn, etc.)--a friend who's a hairstylist said to do that when a color came out too dark one time.

Then follow with a deep conditioner, of course.

The good thing is any red dye, no matter how dark, tends to fade more quickly than browns or blondes. And since it's semi, it should be faded in 10-20 washes, depending how often you wash your hair.

I hope this was helpful! There's nothing worse than a dye job not turning out correctly. :( Good luck!

Thanks I'll try the diswashing liquid. I've been shampooing my hair 3 times with dandruff shampoo to try get it out everyday and night, and obviously conditioning my hair after. Dying my hair - worst decision ever

No problem! I also did a quick google search and someone swears by doing a rinse with Diet Coke, then shampooing. Thank you, Internet.

Fellow ginge here.

Yeah, I did the same once and it came out a really unappealing colour. I couldn't afford a trip to the hairdresser so I had to wait for it to grow out.

The good news is that ginger hair is more dye resistant so I never had that "roots" look, it faded as it grew.

But it you can go to a salon and get them to fix it I would. The ones you buy from the shelf will turn out differently on everyone, they never look like the box.

By the way it still looks red, but dark red so you're still ginger, don't worry we won't be revoking your club membership ;)

haha thanks, the lighting is terrible, so it does look a bit more red most the time. My ginger baby hairs that I missed are still taunting me

I don't know much about having it professionally removed. But I definitely agree with using a clarifying shampoo. And use hot water, as hot as you can get it, when wetting and rinsing out shampoo and conditoner!
