Hey everyone. As most of you guys already know I have been cosplaying Leela going on a year now. As she is one of my favorite companions I have too much fun in her costume. But anyways this is one of the first cosplays I ever completed on my own so the work isn't 100% great. As another round of conventions are coming up there are alot of changes ( Read more... )

I love your outfit the way it is! (Then again, I've never seen a Peri serial to begin with so I can't tell.)

You're gorgeous, and you've looked great in this costume and Bikini!Peri each time I've seen you wear it! As Gally draws nearer, you might get more of an instinctual feeling of when to wear Bikini!Peri. Just sit on the idea for a little bit longer and I'm thinking you might have an "aha" moment.

As for the furniture fabric situation, I'm not sure if you could go any thicker without actually using leather... I don't do a TON of work with fabrics, however, so you might not want to rely on me. You might be able to work with some sort of lighter leather to get the look, do it on the cheap, and have minimal trouble crafting the piece.

The best time to be Peri is when you can find someone brave enough to play as Turlough in his budgie smugglers. ;)

1) Looking at this picture of Leela, the colouring of her costume is really quite mottled. So consider hiding the single stain by creating more of them until it looks like you've intended it all along.

2) The biggest problem with your belt is that apart from being thin it's also in one piece that very naturally wants to bend at the point we can see it bending in the photo because it's hanging beneath the level of the bottom of the belt. Even the recent action figure makes the longer front section an 'individual' piece of material. So personally I'd get a uniform width belt, make the front piece and then attach it at the top of the belt so that when you bend and flex, it will simply hinge forward and minimise the problem. Referring back to the first picture I linked too -- which shows the real deal also bends -- I think you should also consider adding some vertical ribbing; just stiching on some extra strips of whatever ( ... )

I know I'm a bit slow to respond but thanks a load for your response, I just have a question what can I do to make it look more mottled? I'm totally stuck on figuring that one out.

No probs. 8) I was just thinkin about looking this post up to see if anyone else had thought of anything to add.

As to the mottling, a sponge dipped in some sort of stain comes to mind. Brown shoepolish maybe, or perhaps a mix of oil and coffee grinds? If you've got any offcuts left of the material, I'd practice on it first

I don't have any suggestions, but I think you look great in those pictures. Will you be at Chicago TARDIS?

Regarding #6: My wife made a Leela costume for Atlanticon II in Virginia Beach back in 1984. At the time she was 5'9" and 135 pounds, and her proportions looked exactly like yours, and her costume fit her about the same way yours fits you. So you have nothing to worry about there. You look fine.

If anything, I might suggest adding a few more of the horizontal strips across the front blue (as Misterandersen said) "dangly bit" because I think Leela's had three or four strips like that on hers. Other than that, you and your costume look great. You're a killer Leela. (Okay... I just read this before sending it and that last line is a horrid pun - totally unintentional - but those are usually the best, so I'm leaving it!)

Dino.
