Hey everyone. As most of you guys already know I have been cosplaying Leela going on a year now. As she is one of my favorite companions I have too much fun in her costume. But anyways this is one of the first cosplays I ever completed on my own so the work isn't 100% great. As another round of conventions are coming up there are alot of changes

1) Looking at this picture of Leela, the colouring of her costume is really quite mottled. So consider hiding the single stain by creating more of them until it looks like you've intended it all along.
2) The biggest problem with your belt is that apart from being thin it's also in one piece that very naturally wants to bend at the point we can see it bending in the photo because it's hanging beneath the level of the bottom of the belt. Even the recent action figure makes the longer front section an 'individual' piece of material. So personally I'd get a uniform width belt, make the front piece and then attach it at the top of the belt so that when you bend and flex, it will simply hinge forward and minimise the problem. Referring back to the first picture I linked too -- which shows the real deal also bends -- I think you should also consider adding some vertical ribbing; just stiching on some extra strips of whatever you make your belt from should be useful.
3) To me, it looks like the dangly bits -- what are they called, because the only thing I can think to call them is loin cloth and that just doesn't feel like the right term -- are actually meant to be 4 smaller panels joined together. This maxibust gives a good look at how both front and back are constructed.
4) At this point, I think you should probably splash out on leather for the belt if you possibly can, if for no other reason than the structural strength it offers. Because if this was me -- and looking at the pictures would seem to support the idea -- the weapon scabbards and pouches attach either to the belt or the bottom hemline of the bodysuit rather than a strap arrangement like you're currently using.
6) Honestly, until you mentioned it I didn't really notice anything. :) The loin cloth is quite useful for minimising the visual width you're worried about, so keep it broad and knee length. The pantyhose are perhaps a problem: the shinyness tends to draw the eye more than matt skin.
7) Embiggen the pouch and the scabbards if you can so they hide more of what you want to obscure? Or add more of them. I'd also recommend adding some red cord to your boots.

As to the mottling, a sponge dipped in some sort of stain comes to mind. Brown shoepolish maybe, or perhaps a mix of oil and coffee grinds? If you've got any offcuts left of the material, I'd practice on it first
