Meryl has said in several interviews that she played the character as several different MEN that she's known who were in powerful positions.

There are similarities with anyone in a powerful position, because Miranda is a powerful person.

there seems some merit to your discussion. i watched the episode and saw similar patterns. in fact DWP was one of the reasons I started watching Project Runway. I thought the Nina episode was very interesting. Nina is one of the quieter influences, but the few words she does say are always heard (very Miranda like)
