"No," Batman had said. "You wanted to stop him. I pointed out the options. I didn't suggest you take them."
It's funny but, "You wanted to stop him" suggests that Bruce might actually have told them all to back off and leave Lex to his own devices.

I just loved that part of your commentary--because according to SV (fanon, at least, I have no idea about canon), Bruce and Lex went to school together. They were classmates, and might even have been friends, once upon a time. Bruce might want to let Lex have his thing as much as Clark wants to be Lex's thing.
Also? I can't see Batman caring about anything other than Gotham--his focus has been too... focused for too long on his city, that the rest of the world can go to hell, so long as he saves his city.

At any rate, while a book like The Art of War is about applying the rules of war to business, it seems that in this instance, Lex is applying the rules of business to war.

I like that analysis--and the way that you phrased it. :)

"Fine," Lex said. "You remember that show we went ( ... )

OMIGOD, I love your commentary on my commentary! ;)

Bruce & Lex at school together is, at this point, only fanon -- fallout from our love of the kinder, gentler Lex we've seen on Smallville (but then so is the Clark who wants to be Lex's thing, dammit.) The recent Lex-oriented comic, Lex Luthor - Man of Steel, shows them as businessmen having social lunches together, but I don't get a "friend" vibe.

Also? I can't see Batman caring about anything other than Gotham--his focus has been too... focused for too long on his city, that the rest of the world can go to hell, so long as he saves his city.
Absolutely! My take on it was that he didn't really give a damn about whether or not Lex took over the galaxy, he merely *noted* ( ... )

I absolutely adore this commentary. I think the story is even funnier (which I wouldn't have thought would be possible) with the commentary added.

This was a lot of fun to read, because I adore sarcasm and through its judicious use you managed to make this already funny story even more funny. *g*

Thanks so much!

I think if you really like the characters, you can be sarcastic but still do it in a gentle enough way that it doesn't go over the top into meanness. And I do adore all these characters, much as I want to smack them sometimes.

Exactly, we kid because we love! Particularly in the instance of Clark.
