through a glass narrowly

We have good news re: Pippa's vision; the problem is that she's outgrowing the glasses, which puts stress on the arms and nosepads and causes them to bend, warp or slip easily, and this is making them sit weirdly on her face and negating the bifocals (which need to sit in the right spot to work). She will need bigger frames soon, but we will need ( Read more... )

Your sushi party sounds dreamy. The only place to get good sushi supplies around here (and reputable fish) is Whole Foods, and that is WAY too expensive. (Or are you using cooked/smoked fish?) It would be cheaper to just go buy sushi. Also, husband doesn't eat fish, because he likes missing out on awesome things.

I've never been successful with miso, either. There has got to be a secret that they just aren't telling us.

Last weekend we started cleaning the office (AKA the "shove in the mess" room) to ready it to be the guest room, so the guest room can become the nursery. Today I hosted playgroup and was in a blind panic the 20 minutes leading up to it because I had to find new homes for the stuff we took out but hadn't found homes for yet, but couldn't be out for The Toddlers to find. I do love hosting playgroup, though, because the moms all help clean up the toys better than I ever manage to get them cleaned up, and then we have lunch, nap, and if all that goes well, my living room may be somewhat clean until Saturday morning.

The shrimp will be cooked (it's just normal raw-shrimp-in-a-bag from the freezer at the supermarket). The salmon, IIRC, was $11/lb for frozen sashimi-grade wild sockeye salmon, but I got that at a wholesaler (which has since closed its sales to the public, sadface). The tuna was a splurge... it was $20/lb fresh, but I only bought a tiny piece (about 1/4 lb). That tiny piece will probably cut up into a good eight slices of sashimi, for $5. Eight slices of this kind of tuna at a local sushi place would cost $10 to $15 depending on the place ( ... )
