We did this method with my elder son (part-time) when he was a baby, but once he got mobile enough to walk off the potty, it was all over (about a year). We've tried a bit with the other two (18 months and 2 months respectively), but not seriously. The middle one is showing signs of potty interestedness, so we're going with it as much as is feasible.

I will say that my elder son was a bear to potty train. After we gave up EC at a year, we started in earnest at 2.5 and it took A Whole Year. A year that totally sucked. But he's trained now, and we won the war!

Good luck with your little one!

What do you mean when you say 'crunchy'? Is it slang for hippie? Or crazy? Or too-much-information?

Crunchy is generally used to mean "hippie-like, new age, earthy and back to nature way". I think the etymology has to do with granola.

Meh. You get trained for a job, you get trained in first aid. It's ridiculous how silly people are.

Mm, but you get trained for and trained in. The only example I can think of for [thing] trained is house/crate trained, which is what pets get.

Mind, I could just be forgetting a really obvious example, but...
