Witches Abroad

Yesterday I felt not so good. I was reeaaally tired, my eyes were squinty, my throat a bit scratchy, and my face felt all puffy. I left work a little early, came home and started taking Airborne. I felt better this morning, but still tired, so I stayed home to rest and let the Airborne do its thing.

Today I have been reading Terry Pratchett's Read more... )

Reaper Man is my favorite of the Discworld books, but I liked Witches Abroad a lot too. The thing about those, though? Terry doesn't use chapter breaks. There's no good place to stop.

Glad you're feeling better!

I haven't read Reaper Man; I haven't read enough Terry Pratchett, period.

Terry doesn't use chapter breaks. There's no good place to stop.

Heh. I don't usually use chapter breaks, either, so it works out well for me. I always stop reading on the left-hand page, about 1/5 the way down the page. That way I always know where to start back up again. It's a real quirk, I know, but it works for me!

Yay, I got Baba Yaga, too!

Hope you feel much better tomorrow!

It took me hours to conjure up that name! I swear it was all the interference from all the other story references in Witches Abroad: Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, The Wizard of Oz, The Three Little Pigs, Briar Rose/Sleeping Beauty). It's a fun book!

Actually, this is where my geekiness comes out. I used to mud/mush and one of the characters on some of the levels I played had to go into Baba Yaga's hut and retrieve items. :) That's how it came to me so easily.

I don't know about "Airborne." I have read mixed reviews on the stuff. I do have a different recommendation: Gypsy Cold Care Tea, by Traditional Medicinals. My son has a cold, and I have him drinking a cup every three to four hours with a big spoonful of honey. He is going back up to college tomorrow and has asked to take a box with him, because he feels so much better already. Honey, taken straight, is also really good for sore throat, and has been demonstrated as more soothing than any commercial sore throat drop or lozenge. Hot lemonade is really good also. But not to everyone's taste. Feel better soon!

I have also heard mixed reviews of Airborne, but it did seem to help. I think the trick is to take it as soon as the slightest symptoms appear.

I have never tried Gypsy Cold Care, but now I wish I had. I used to drink a number of the Traditional Medicinals teas, but recently I seem to have developed an allergy to something in at least a couple of them that I haven't had before. So I've stayed away from them.

I did take hot lemon tea on Friday, though. Yay! I didn't know about honey. I'll try that if my throat feels bad again. Today, though, I feel pretty much back to normal. I hope that continues!

Yes, honey is a very effective healing agent. It has been used to treat infected wounds, like bedsores, and it works very well. It has natural antibiotic properties. Amazing stuff. I use it instead of sugar whenever possible.
