One year

I have now lived in my farmhouse one year. It almost doesn't seem that long. I am still happy here, moreso in the spring-summer-fall. In winter the land sleeps and the house is dark, cold, and lonely. I feel the seasons much more here than I ever did in the city or even the suburbs ( Read more... )

I just recently got the joke from Dr. Tran: "I am not a mocodidity!" He's trying to say "commodity". I don't know why that is funny, but I've been giggling about that for the last couple of days. I'm kind of slow to get jokes sometimes.

Heeh. That's Athena's favorite line for Dr. Tran. She quotes it about once a month.

And if the winter months get you down you could always come visit us in sunny Florida.

I must be even slower, since I've never heard of Dr Tran before now.

Aside from martial arts, I was once told that an effective way to control weeds (both giant field weeds and more domestic yard varieties) was the use of lime, which makes the grass thrive and choke them out. That's what I've heard at least. I'm thinking of trying it out myself on the old family farm, albeit sometime in the always distant future :)

Except that grass is one of the weeds that I have to contend with, especially in the gravel drive and parking areas. I have settled on a combination of pulling the weeks and using roundup on the ones that I can't pull (mostly grass). I don't mind non-grass plants in the yard, except for poisen ivy.
