Midnight yowls

I left the door open between Ki's room and the rest of the house pretty much all weekend. Ki seems to be taking an incremental approach to becoming accepted in the rest of the house. One room at a time. So far he feels that he has the run of the upstairs. He's made it as far downstairs as a perch on the stairs that allows him to see the ( Read more... )

I'm glad the new kitty seems to be fitting in well, litter boxes aside. I adopted a new one on halloween; a big old grey cat showed up at my kitchen window, crying, and decided to move in. He got along well with my one cat (Little Guy, my deaf cat who appears on some of my icons) but my female cat was terrified of him, and then he started attacking her... it was ugly. I'd gotten the impression that my girl kitty wanted to be an only cat, so I gave her to my mom (who is recently widowed and really needed a fuzzy face around the house). It was heartwrenchingly sad, but she is really happy in her own house.

I'd love to adopt another cat, since I have the room for one, but I'm really afraid of the fighting that might happen. I probably introduced the cats together too soon, as well. :-( Oh well, maybe I'll just wait for another one to show up on my doorstep! (Though every time I go to Petsmart I run the risk of bringing home a new cat; nearly got a female yesterday, who had been rejected by two adoptive families, poor thing).

Ahh, cats, how they pull at our heartstrings! Adopting cats is hard on the established cats, but its soooo tempting with their cute faces and sweet ways. I brought my second cat, Polybius, into my house 10 years ago. I was a new cat owner and I introduced them way too early. My first, Patches, in true calico style, was pissed. She gave me the cold shoulder for *six months*, until I moved into a new apartment and they were able to work out their territories on neutral ground. I was so traumatized that it took me ten years to let another cat into the house. But they seemed to like each other when they met on the porch. I'm glad it's worked out. They are getting along fine and everyone seems happy!

I say, if you can introduce them slowly, go for it!
