Baby shower weekend

Apr 10, 2006 18:41

I'm surprised thatkaringirl (babyadventure) hasn't posted about this weekend yet. It was our baby shower weekend. We had two. One with friends and some family on Saturday, and one on Sunday at church. It's really amazing when you think about it, how many people love and care for us and this child already. It's quite touching and very appreciated.

How about some non-fiction? A Year At The Movies by Kevin Murphy* is a book of amusing and short essays, about going to movies all around the world. And experiencing wonder from watching "Monsters, Inc." with a small child. And being drunk in Finland at 1 in the morning with the sun still up. And how great a theater Hopkins 6 is. And how horribly painful a movie "Corky Romano" is, even if you watch it with Michael J. Nelson.

If you'd rather read something that's I-have-to-put-this-down-because-I'm-laughing-so-hard funny, there's Richard's Poor Almanac by Richard Thompson. Anyone who can use the words "absquatulate" and "defenestrate", and make reference to Carl Orff, in their cartoons like it's no big deal is all right with me. Also, this book is very very very very very very very very silly.

*Tom Servo.

"A Year At the Movies" looks very fun. I don't think the "Richard's Poor Almanac" is quite up my alley. I'm leaning more toward fiction, but I'll have to at least take a look at the movie one. Did you know, exodus32, husband of musicsmurf worked on MST3K as an intern?

I'll have to join the Citadels game next time. Being nasty is so in line with my personality.

I hope that's intended to be sarcastic! Otherwise, I've never noticed that aspect of your personality. If you really want to have fun making people mad at you for being nasty, play Munchkin!

Have you tried any of the Thursday Next novels by Jasper Fforde? Take a look at http://www.jasperfforde.com Since you're a pretty well-read individual, you'll probably really get a kick out of his books, which include characters jumping in and out of various classic fiction novels. They're very fun.

It's too bad Phil didn't know about the change of plans for husbands. He felt really left out. :(

What change of plans for husbands? Oh, going to Tim and Rachel's. I wish we'd have let him know too. I think he'd like the new board game, Puerto Rico. You guys need to come on Fridays more regularly, then it's more likely you'll come to mind when these things happen! I'm not sure if the Andersons feel they know you real well yet.
