“What does it mean?” Ryo demanded, still rather confused.
“It means you’ll find out next week,” Yasu replied, with a calm smile.
Ryo looked ready to argue, however at the same time, the man seemed hardly able to stand properly from the vast amount of food he’d just ingested only minutes ago.
No one else looked all that happy with the outcome either, least of all Kamenashi, who although was meant to be the most reasonable of the bunch, looked rather frazzled and it took the combined efforts of both Koki and Jin to lead him off stage.
As Ueda assisted Taguchi off as well, with Nakamaru in hot pursuit.
The members of NEWS however didn’t look all that likely to move, until they were quietly ushered off the stage, much to Yamapi’s surprise and the audiences disappointment.
Idly Yamapi wondered if perhaps something else was going on, that they simply weren’t telling him. Of course it wouldn’t be the first time it happened either…

“We’re definitely going to lose this one,” Ryo said, rather annoyed.
“Don’t say that, Shige’s been working out a bit lately,” Yamapi responded.
“Yeah, a bit,” Ryo replied, rather sarcastically.
“Hey, don’t go picking on Shige, just because you’re mad you couldn’t win your challenge,” Yamapi said, rather curtly.
Ryo gave his friend a rather sour look, unable to properly respond. As he was right. Ryo was rather annoyed, he still couldn’t really grasp or rather except the fact that he hadn’t won. Sure he hadn’t lost, but he hadn’t actually won, which counted for little with Ryo.
“Besides it’s really not all that important is it?” Yamapi said, gazing out the window rather pensively. The two were sitting on the train, surprisingly it was rather empty, so the two were able to speak openly with one another.
“What d’you mean it’s not that important?” Ryo spluttered, aghast that Yamapi even suggested such a thing.
“Well, it’s not,” Yamapi replied, slowly. “After all it’s really just a type of publicity, to bring more attention to the juniors. It doesn’t really do all that much for us as a group.”
Ryo didn’t reply, he merely stared back at his friend of nearly 10 years with a look of pure disbelief.
Yamapi rolled his eyes, “Don’t look at me like that, you know it’s just a marketing strategy.”
“Exactly, it’s a strategy that could either help us, or break us!” Ryo exclaimed. “If we lose we’ll be the butt of every joke within the agency, I don’t know about you, but I’ve had enough of that to last me a lifetime!”
Yamapi remained silent, giving Ryo a rather hard and appraising look. “I just don’t want this to get out of hand. The last thing we need is to actually get mixed up in this competitiveness and end up actually fighting!”
Ryo rolled his eyes, “you worry too much, Pi.”
He clapped Yamapi on the back, it was quite clear who’d won that particular argument.
“No, I don’t think I worry enough,” Yamapi muttered, as the train sped across the underground workings.

“You’re on a new regimen,” Ueda declared.
“But I don’t want to!” Jin whined. Really he didn’t understand why the group seemed to doubt his capability, after all he was the ace soccer player of the group, albeit he hadn’t had time to really play the game in the last few months, but he was still well and fit. At least, well enough to deal with Shige.
If there was one thing to set his mind at ease, or really the entire groups mind, would be the fact that he, Jin, was actually facing Shige. Shige, of all people in a physical challenge.
It was pretty much a known fact that Shige was perhaps, singularly one of the worst athletes, at least of all the debuted groups, if not of the entire agency. For crying out loud the guy nearly fell off the stage a few times when he first debuted.
To put it bluntly Jin wasn’t threatened.
Not even a bit.
In truth, he was actually a bit annoyed that the group was even making a big deal out of it.
“You’re going to work out with Koki,” Nakamaru said.
“But that’s boring,” Jin complained.
“And so are your interviews,” Kamenashi cut in, “but we deal with it, don’t we?”
“And that’s why you’re going to do this perfectly to a tee, got it?” Nakamaru stated, cheerfully.
“C’mon, it’ll be fun,” Koki said, encouragingly.
Jin pouted, jogging, sit-ups, push-ups, the general regime that kept Koki up, going and completely ripped, did not sound fun. Not at all.
But a look around the room, clearly told Jin there would be little room to argue.

As soon as he’d heard what his event was to be Shige had felt his blood run cold. He cold tell, even then that his entire week would be hell, not just the one hour that had been allotted to him.
And of course, without fail Shige awoke to loud thumping on his door at precisely 7:00 the next morning.
Bleary eyed, Shige made his way to the door, and found Tegoshi standing on the other side.
“We’re going for a jog,” Tegoshi announced.
Shige gently rubbed the sleep out of his eyes, let the hell begin.
* * *
The week ended and quickly led to what Shige had been thinking of as the light at the end of the tunnel, the beginning and ending of the challenge.
Frankly at the moment Shige could hardly care whether he lost or won the match anymore, his entire body just ached from the thorough workout the entire group had put him through. Each day one member showed up, bright eyed, and with a happy smile in Massu’s case and a sour glare of determination in Ryo’s case.
And so he sat rather slumped over in the dressing room, listening idly as the PA’s and the crew ran around the area, attempting to get everything ready in time for the show.
Soon enough, however all that surrounded him was a blissful silence, that was quickly interrupted by the arrival of Masuda and Nakamaru.
“Oh, Shige you’re here already,” Masuda said, with a smile. “Here, I brought you some water,” he said handing said object to a rather tired Shige.
“Thanks Massu,” Shige muttered.
“Mm,” Massu said with a smile. “You’ll need to keep hydrated,” Massu explained, “it’s very important to stay hydrated when you’re exercising,” Massu began to explain.
But he was cut only slightly short by the arrival of a bickering pair consisting of Ueda and Kamenashi. “I don’t see what the problem is!” Kamenashi cried.
“Of course you don’t! You’re too focused on how it’s good for you, not anybody else!” Ueda replied.
“You know if the roles were reversed, and I was you, I’d just do it!” Kamenashi said, rather passionately.
“well their not! And I’m not you! “ Ueda fired back, “So just stop!”
Kamenashi looked ready to argue, but merely shook his head and stomped out of the room again.
“Again?” Nakamaru asked, tentatively.
“Don’t get me started,” Ueda warned, taking a brisk swig of water.
Soon after Taguchi arrived, with a bewildered expression on his face, “is Kame alright?” he asked.
Ueda didn’t say a word, Nakamaru however answered, “He’s cooling off.”
It seemed that was all the information needed, as Taguchi nodded in understanding, and headed over to Ueda, and quickly engaged the other man in conversation, and soon after into a game on his new DS.
Nakamaru didn’t look happy.
Soon after the last few stragglers arrived, with Yamapi arriving a whopping five minutes earlier than expected, at least for him, the ever late-comer.
The dressing room felt a bit tight, at least to Yamapi.
Being enclosed within the 50x50 foot room, with 11 other fully-grown men, and merely added to that the suffocating tense atmosphere between both Ueda and Ryo, who spent the majority of the time throwing dirty looks at one another, or having a full out staring contest.
It came as quite a relief when both groups were ushered out of the room, by two frazzled looking PA’s.
However that in itself was rather unsurprising, considering that nearly every PA looked near suicidal, especially when dealing with a few of the older, more established groups.
“My arm is sore,” Jin complained, as the group waited on the left wing of the stage.
“You’ll survive,” Kamenashi replied with an eye roll.
Jin pouted at the lack of affection he was receiving, as Kamenashi turned away from him.
He received little response from the other members, except Koki who gave him a terse smile, as they were announced.
Jin having not paid total attention, nearly tripped on his way towards the stage, and was only steadied by Kamenashi’s surprisingly strong grip on the back of his jacket.
Gingerly, Kamenashi straightened the jacket and gently pushed Jin forward.
There was an explosion of noise as the audience screamed, it seemed the thoroughly enjoyed the Kamenashi’s sweet gesture.
On the other side of the stage, Koyama was busily fussing over Shige, “are you sure you had enough to drink?” he asked.
Shige let out a slight sigh, since he’d arrived, Koyama had been doting on his every want and need. Not that Shige really had all that many, but it was a bit frustrating, and led to a bit more guilt on Shige’s part for not being able to properly hide his aches.
“NEWS!”
With a happy smile plastered on his face, Shige filed out right behind Yamapi.
The host or hosts this week were none other than Yaotome Hikaru and Okamoto Keito.
“Eh? You’re the host this week?” Jin asked.
“Of course, who else is better suited to host a week of physical challenges?” Hikaru asked with a smile.
The audience, seemed to appreciate Hikaru’s brand of humor.
“HELLO!” He cried, waving at the audience enthusiastically.
Keito waved as well, although his wave seemed to lack the vigor Hikaru’s seemed to. Although Shige felt he appreciated Keito’s quiet presence more at the moment than he did Hikaru’s.
Of course it would be his luck that the host for his challenge would be Hikaru.
It wasn’t as though Shige disliked Hikaru, in fact they were really quite good friends, but it was while onscreen that Hikaru’s humor sometimes turned sour for Shige, especially if Yabu or Koyama were involved as well.
“Now, for this week we were supposed to have the physical challenges between Akanishi-kun and Shige,” Hikaru began.
“But we have a surprise!” Keito cut in excitedly.
“A Surprise?!” Hikaru asked, an exaggerated look of surprise etched on his face.
“Hai!”
A surprise? Jin wondered, maybe it’ll be fun…
“To make up for the tie from last week, producer-san made the announcement last week to the audience,” Hikaru explained.
“But kept it a secret from our senpai,” Keito added.
“We let the audience take a vote as to which two members will have an extra round with Akanishi-kun and Shige, for a tag-team match!”
The audience screamed, while both groups on stage struggled to stay calm.
Two members would have to undergo the hellish hour twice?!
Koki and Nakamaru silently prayed for themselves, while Kamenashi merely looked stunned, unable to hide the shock he felt.
Masuda blinked, perhaps it was just a joke?
Tegoshi looked determined, he wouldn’t go down if it really was him picked.
Yamapi could only hope it wasn’t who he thought it was.
“And the audience and viewers at home picked…..” Hikaru’s voice trailed off as Keito gingerly took an envelope from one of the small juniors.
Slowly he extended the letter open, for Hikaru to see. “UEDA-KUN and NISHIKIDO-KUN!” The two cried in unison.
Yamapi closed his eyes in resignation, while Kamenashi looked quite faint.
Koki looked horrified, as did Koyama, who in turn covered his mouth in surprise.
No one seemed to notice them however, as all eyes turned to Ueda and Ryo who coincidently stood smack in the center of the stage, and were eyeing one another, unfathomable expressions on their faces.
Ryo smiled a bit, “We definetly won’t lose,” he whispered.
Ueda smirked, “Don’t count on that.”
Jin blinked, did that really just happen?
Shige stared, god he really was going to go through hell wasn’t he? A single look in Ryo’s eye and it was easy to see just how much Shige would probably end up suffering.
That maniacally, competitive glint that sparkled in his eye, most definitely one of the most beautiful things girls had probably ever seen was by far one of the scariest things Shige had ever seen.
“And it gets better!” Hikaru announced.
Yamapi shook his head, how could things really get any worse? Or in this case better.
“The event will be…” Keito began.
“A tag-team boxing match!” they cried together in unison. Obviously they were excited about it.
The audience too screamed in delight.
Clearly this would end up being one of the biggest matches of the entire game.
=END PART=
Author’s Note: Yes, I know I’m at least two weeks overdue with this chapter. Sorry!
But I hope this new ‘surprise’ makes up for it. I recalled a lot of requests earlier on to have Ueda vs Ryo. Originally I hadn’t planned this, but I was suddenly inspired.
I’m not sure if all that many people are still following the story, and I’m very sorry for the slow updates, but as of late I’ve been busy, and besides that my computer caught a virus. So instead of writing on my PC I’ve had to write a good chunk of this on an old laptop, that’s missing a key. So I apologize for any and all grammatical errors on this particular chapter. I’ll see if I can get them fixed within the next few days.
I hope you liked/ were satisfied with the update!
Comments, criticisms are really appreciated!
