Gender Confusion

Hah!! I just turned on my radio to listen to Fresh Air, a bit late, and heard DAVID BOWIE!!! Not as a guest, but a clip from "Extras" in which he was singing a song about Ricky Gervais. There are a variety of possible situations where gender can be ambiguous.
One of those, the main one explored in this Flash piece, is Complete
Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome -- someone with XY chromosomes who doesn't
respond to her body's testosterone and thus develops as phenotypically
female (but without various parts of the female reproductive system).
According to this piece, the scientific and medical community (apparently
including professional sports) accepts such people as female. But
presumably there are other scenarios in which the sports world would
consider the person to be male.

Wow! You answered all our questions. It still seems that they should be using the term "sex" in lieu of "gender" since gender is a social distinction and sex is a physiological one. I hate it when people do that. And sometimes I wonder if I also secretly hate dating a gender studies major because it makes me hate people who mix the two up. Nah.
