Pikeman's Pleasure

It was a fabulous weekend. We stayed over Friday night at Helen’s cottage, Windsong, which was as gorgeous as its name. Piers remarked that it was probably my idea of a cottage because it had a dishwasher & a washing machine and a T.V. It actually reminded me of a few retreat centres I’ve stayed at - lots of bedrooms, a few common rooms, and ( Read more... )

On you-know-who, if he is young (I have a guess on who you are referring to but it may not be the right one) enough to be sent off to Afghanistan maybe instead of telling him to screw off, you should remind him of the chilvalrous values the SCA is supposed to be founded on?

It is possible that is is oblivious and self-conscious about himself and trying to be "joking" rather than deliberately trying to be mean?

He isn't mean nor is he trying to be a jerk. My theory is that being military, having the second worst score at the last two archery events is hard on him. After all the military is all about proficiency in weapons and archery was in period a military activity rather than a recreational sport. He says things to me not with a Nelson Muntz-ish "ha-ha. Look at you" but rather with a gleeful "wow. I'm not the worst". I don't think he has the slightest clue how badly he makes me feel at times ( ... )

And being military he might be thinking that it's a camaradie commiseration thing.

I looked back at your posts, and you are talking about who I thought you were.

I'd pull him aside and point it out to him. He is young and slightly socially unaware sometimes, and he probably would benefit from hearing that his behaviour is having an unintended effect.

The only thing that made it worse was you-know-who. He looked through all the scores and kept commenting on how badly I was doing and how he was "not the one who sucked the most". In the end, I finished last and he finished second last.OMG, who *is* this prick ( ... )

That would be the pink Norman dress in question. Someone was talking about bliauts and I asked what exactly differentiated one from other Norman dresses. Dame Helen said mine was a bliaut. Someone else said that to be a bliaut it needed gathering at the waist. I personally glad you didn't do that because, while it worked on Domhnail's body, I personally do not need extra material or extra attention at my midsection ( ... )
