it just occurred to me, now that we actually have a date, we can't put off the registry questions any more. kizayaen thought that i'd want all new stuff as far as dishes and such go, but really, the current corelle is fine with me, and mom gave me her good china and silverware. there goes the usual staples of a registry. i've looked at sites online, and ( Read more... )

I have no clue.. one of the things that was stressing me about our (postponed) wedding was what on earth to ask people to give us. We decided "instruments for me and radio gear for him" wouldn't go down well, sadly.

Do you want nice new towels and bed linen maybe? If you cook, some expensive cookware or fancy knives? Throws and pillows? Blankets? Lamps? Stuff to revamp a room maybe?

Friends who've got married have listed crystal glasses and dinnerware that costs 20 bucks or more *per* plate and solid silver cutlery and... stuff I don't want, don't need and wouldn't ever spend that much cash on, even if its other peope's money, so I've no clue either, though I found a lovely handmade celtic glass bowl and a small fountain I could stand to receive :)

yeah, most of our family and friends are not well off, so the idea of something that costs that much for so little annoys me.

part of the 'we have no idea' problem is due to the fact that our lease will be up in feb, so we want to be in a house by then. we won't know what will be needed until then...

There's that too...

Heh, yes, that is a slight problem, though I already have decor ideas picked out and plans for stuff for most of the rooms in our part of the house if we ever manage to move from where we are, its keeping me distracted from the whole "moving house, shit, panic!!!" type effect, as in, "well, we'll have that wardrobe, and I think that duvet set will go nicely in the overall cream and beige scheme, la la la".

i can see the first three as 'how to make a better grilled cheese sandwich' =)

The ability to bake quiche lorraine is insignificant next to the power of Grilled Cheese.

Songwind stole my answer! =P

Basically we had most everything, we just did a "Kitchen upgrade" and we were pretty young. So we got a really nice marble set of kitchen things that I use/used pretty often. The marble rolling pin was my favorite.

Nice towels are always good. I think of that more as the "don't know this person well" sort of gift, though. Or in the case of my best friend...I knew it was the one thing she REALLY wanted. hehe

Good luck! *hugs*

hehehehe I should send you my required by Southern Law egg tray. I think I've used it once in all my 14 years of wedded matrimony.

see, i'm not even sure that we'd use it that much. only time i have deviled eggs is at my grandmother's and she always fixes them.

won't know what our home looks like until januaryish...

kiz has complained that we have different colored towels (they match though). i suppose we could go somewhere like bed, bath and beyond and feel up the sheets so we can tell people what we want, because i've felt some supposedly good threadcount sheets and they all feel different.

I tell you. I LOVE Bed Bath and Beyond's collection of Pure Beech Sateen sheets. Made from modal, which is cool because of its properties and because I am amused by the idea of sheets made from trees.

They're astoundingly comfy for how low their threadcount is. To me, they're like the best of both of the silk and cotton worlds -- soft and washable as cotton, but silky and warm like silk, without the clammy coldness that you initially get with silk sheets, and being more smooth and less textured than cotton. Also they come in neat colors and are VERY reasoanbly priced.

Kitchen stuff, linen stuff, gadgety stuff. Stop thinking Fortunoff's, start thinking Target...if you were walking around Target with an unlimited gift certificate what would you get? (Not exactly Target for sure but you know what I mean, I guess?)

Ooooh didn't know they let you do that! AWSOME!

They even have nice home office stuff, storage stuff, etc...

yeah, they give you this thing that looks like one of their pricing guns, and let you loose in the store. i've heard of fiancees having to forcefully take those things away from the guys.
